Ok, I've got VDMSound 2.1.0, and I have Windows XP SP2, with RealTek AC97 Audio sound built in on my motherboard. And I've tried everything I can think of to get the damn thing working!

Regardless of what DOS game or program I'm trying to run with sound, no matter what settings I use, VDMSound makes about as much difference as eating a sock to try and get sound working. I've tried to send the sound to my card, and I've tried sending it to file, and nothing (the file never gets created, and if it does it's empty). I've tried all the different settings available, and nothing. I've tried to create a log file to see if it says anything, and it appears normal, however if anyone wants a copy of a log file I can send it, but it looks OK to me. As fars as I'm aware, I'm not running any direct I/O programs on my computer, in fact I've even disabled all other open programs in an attempt to get it working, and still nothing.

Strange, it looks you are doing something wrong. I have XP SP2 and Realtek ALC 650 AC'97 too and usually sound works OK.
Are you aware that not all games/programs work with VDMSound?
Did you run sound setup program (usually setup.exe or setsound.exe) with VDMSound and configure the sound?
- IRQ 7
- 8-bit DMA 1
- 16-bit DMA 5
(or just DMA 1 if there is only one setting for DMA)
When your sound is configured you can try to run your game with VDMSound (right-click on the main exe file, click 'Run with VDMS', usually default settings are OK, I recommend creating the shortcut so you'll be able to change settings easily).
