in the vdmsound documentation, it says that if you choose to use vdmsound through the dosdrv command, you have to configure it yourself. the question is, how do i do that?

i'd like to run mechwarrior 2, i followed directions indicated here

but the game will run much smoother if i run it from a fullscreen command prompt as opposed to running it directly from a shortcut on windows xp. without any configuration (as in, using the dosdrv command only before running the game, the game runs as smoothly and perfectly as can be right up until i try to play a mission, at which the game hangs up at the loading screen.

i figure this is because VESA/low-level CD-ROM support in VDMsound hasn't been activated. i need to know how to do that.
