Hey all,
Over the past few months I've been slowly tinkering with a new-to-me Compaq ProLinea 4/33s for the purpose of DOS gaming. It has an integrated Tseng ET4000/W32 chip which has worked fine for VGA games such as Doom, Civilization, and SimCity 2000. Unfortunately, for unknown reasons, the integrated video is simply not detected by certain applications. I was hoping to play Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis, but it immediately exits to DOS with the error "This Program Requires a Graphics Card". My disc also has demo versions of DOTT and Sam and Max, but they exit with the same error. It's worth noting that both NSSI and CuteMouse also fail to detect the VGA adaptor.
The BIOS lets me change the VGA bus width and the refresh rate for 1024x768 but that doesn't seem to make a difference. The only SoftPaq that I've found that is relevant is SP0425 which provided a working VESA TSR. This worked in so far as NSSI would report VESA compatibility and Warcraft 2 would run, but otherwise the system seemed to fail to "have" a video adaptor.
I suspect this is a side effect of how the ET4000 is integrated, however does anyone have thoughts on this problem and how I might resolve or work around it? Not being able to play the SCUMM games isn't the end of the world, but this problem is strange enough that I'd kind of like to get to the bottom of it.
Thanks in advance!
