Hi guys,

I'm realy new to this, and do not entirely understand how to get DOS games working on XP with VDMSound.

I have downloaded and installed VDMSound, and am currently trying to start the DOS CD version of Revolution-X, the aerosmith game.

I cannot figure out what to do.......

Game command line pops up, then disappears!

If you have experiance with this game and VDMSound, i could sure use your input.

Thanx.

You need to right-click on the game and choose "Run with VDMS". Also, getting the VDMSound Launchpad is recommended.

Yes, it’s my fault.

Thanx for replying, this is where i'm at now,

I chose run with VDMSound, and now the small black prompt box says; to run revolution-x, change to the installation directory and type "RX".

Press any key to continue..

Where do find the installation directory, so i can type in "RX"?

Newbe.....sorry, i just do not understand it clearly.

The installation directory is where you INSTALLED THE GAME. So use Explorer to go to that directory, find "RX," right-click on it, and choose "Run with VDMSound"

Yes, it’s my fault.

Thanx again,

I got the game music going, but it is slower, ontop of that, the screens themselves hang-up, even though i push enter to go to the next one, they just hang, and then finaly go on their own.

About 5-minutes later, i get to the player select screen, choose one player and then it freezes.

I have chosen windows-95 in compatibility mode, as well as playing around with other options, such as full screen, limiting the colors and such.........no luck though.

Keep in mind: there are alternate pathways to the same result.

Revolution-X was originally an arcade game. If you own the arcade game, you can legally run the game on your home computer. You would need to "dump" the ROMs and download them to your computer. You would also need to install an emulator called MAME (Multiple Arcade Machine Emulator - http://www.mame.net)

Optionally, you could (illegally) download the ROMs for Revolution-X from a website, FTP, IRC or USENET. However, I wouldn't know how to go about that. 😉

(Colin, have a login to MAME.DK? Try it now)

You could also try finding and purchasing the Sony Playstation or Sega Saturn versions of the game, and emulate those on your PC. They're probably pretty close to the PC port or original arcade game.

Or we could keep trying to get the PC version working. 😀

Let's not forget the basics:

1) Did you try configuring it for no sound (or PC-speaker) and see if it runs in silence (IOW, does the program even run properly in XP)?

Does it run at the proper speed when silent?

3) Presuming that 1) worked, try using XP's built-in emulation instead of VDMSound (using IRQ 5) to see if it works.

Does it work? If so, is it still horribly slow?
