hey all,
am having trouble getting this game to work - at all.

in winxp using vdmsound, even with the sound switched off(in the installation options in the game) it does nothing.
game just crashes back to command promptm, with no error messages.

i reinstalled win98se just to try playing this, but when run in a dos box, its give a load of rubbish back, and returns to dos prompt.

oh well...

am now trying to get it working in true dos mode,
but am having difficulty making a boot disk that loads the right drivers!

i made the boot disk in win98, but it is a diagnose disk, and loads all this crap onto a ramdrive.

if i put in my mouse and sounddrivers after the ramdrive stuff it doesn't load the snd drivers, giving an error msg like:
can't load specified drivers below 4megs.
so,
get rid of ramdrive lines , and snd loads okay,
only now, cd drivers dont.
and i cant figure out how to make them load normally without all the crap that microsoft throws into the boot disk!

solutions/pointers to ANY of the above would be GREATLY(!) appreciated.

thanks...

Is this the original 1993/1994 release by Electronic Arts?

Probably. He's calling it 40K since it's in the Warhammer 40,000 universe. See?

This looks like an interesting one. NTCompatible has all "Not Compatible" entries for it in Windows NT 4.0, Windows 2000 and Windows XP. Woohoo! 😀

...but Roushi (Hey ROUSHI!) sez it worked in the version of DOSBox that was out in August. v0.50?: http://www.retrogames.com/cgi-bin/wwwthreads/ … at&sb=5#Post146

I had figured that, but I wanted clarification as to which one it was (especially if there's some rare, super-secret version I've never heard of...).

Oh, yea. Another horribly complex pig to work with...you're sick.

That was the floppy version. I'm pretty sure the CD version will bomb out. Hrmm.

If nothing else, the Amiga version may be an option (of course, that's ported from the floppy PC version...so that's kind of "iffy").

Search VOGONS for "2DOSWIN". It'll probably need some modification depending on what your sound card drivers do, but it should work with a minimum of fuss. 😀

Yes, it’s my fault.

That's true - there is Space Hulk: Legend of the Blood Angels, but that's not a DOS game: http://www.mobygames.com/game/sheet/gameId=2246/

I was having trouble getting the game to work in Winxp as well.
I got a reply that said to change the Sound.drv to sound.drk in the DRV_DIR folder. This worked immediately, of course there is no sound now. What did this do?

It moved the game's sound driver to somewhere that it isn't looking at, so it can't find it and, obviously, no sound. 😀

Yes, it’s my fault.
