Has anyone built their own case?

I've seen some examples before - from really nice work bordering on specialist cabinet making to very basic things, just a wood board with some holding brackets

where the motherboard is older and requires lots of isa / pci slots filling plus fdd, hdd i can see good reason to want to build something comprehensive to accommodate it all

where there might be a micro motherboard with integrated sound & vga and plenty of usb all that's needed for minimal function is cpu cooler, ram and psu plus a SSD. This kind of board could be housed in something very simple and small, everything just screwed onto a simple wood board really, with some simple hinged cover. in either case would need to remember power switch though!

i wouldn't suggest it for a maxxed out modern gaming machine of course

well, another set of possibilities presents itself 😀

I built a mini-itx case from scratch one time.. I used MDF. It turned out pretty nice. It was pretty basic and only took me about a day to build. I think this was back in 2007-2008 or somewhere around that time.

this is wonderful! looks really good in its completed form too. inspiring stuff

Would be great in a job where it's 'bring your own device", raise some eyebrows 😀

i recently 'made', i.e. cut out, a 'case' from cardboard as a testbed for a motherboard

i imagine that's not uncommon, though it feels a bit down market compared to self made cases I've seen

carboard is quite sturdy... no, mustn't talk myself into having it permanently!
