"Be aware that we limit the number of specifications pages viewed during 24-hour interval. You are getting close to this limit. If you go over the limit your access to the site will be disabled for the next 48 hours."
I want to check the different s-spec numbers I don't have and I'm awarded with a 48 hours ban. What a stupid thing to do.

Are you using a VPN or a shared/NATted Internet connection in a public place or at work ?

No, standard optical connection at home. I opened 50 pages under 1 hour and the site should handle that kind of load.

Last time I was there the entire site was disabled until "the scraping stops". Bunch of fools run that site.

And now I'm banned. What a shitty site.

"This IP address is temporarily blocked due to excessive content downloading.

To prevent content scraping and data harvesting, we limit the number of pages that our visitors can access during 1-day period. Currently visitors can view up to 150 pages with CPU and S-Spec specifications and CPUID records, or up to 600 any other pages (excluding forum) per day. Limits can be reduced when pages are accessed too fast. Visitors, exceeding daily limits, are blocked for 48 hours."

It's their site and they can do whatever they like with it...

Yes. And I can say it's incredibly stupid. Just imagine if all sites had these limitations. Imagine if you could only view Vogons a few times a day or you get banned.
Whatever. Dumbasses.

No. I'm on here for a few hours most days.

Luckily my friend could help me and downloaded the website on his rig.
At least now I don't have to see the ads in offline mode.

A lot of sites have that kind of limitations. Though generally more active sites, like reverse image search and file manipulator sites.

Just try using Tor. After a couple of tries at worst you should be able to find a rout with an exit node where you can do another 50 page loads.

i expect the rationale follows that they put the effort in and they want to earn a little bit, if a scraper or user just grabs everything then they wont earn and it will be all that effort given out for nothing

then the website creators have 3 options

1) hide it behind an effective paywall
2) irritate users with limits, such that users actually look for ways round it or for ways to get all the data in one go even more than they would normally
3) its the internet, if you don't want people to see your efforts just don't create a website

Do you have your own (big) website? Do you have to get along with all these f****** bots and "dumbass" users who want to scrape your whole website?

I know these problems and believe me, they don't want to stop users like you from using their page in a regular way. They have problems with things like traffic, bandwidth and stolen content. It's really frustrating, if you spend your hard work, a lot of time and some money to a project and then have to pay extra effort to make it work correctly. Give somebody an inch, and he will take a mile.

Just renew your IP and maybe delete your cookies, this should work for you.

kind regards

To be honest I found the info on Wikipedia so it was easier to just use a different site to get the data I needed. But I used cpu-world frequently so I had my friend download the entire site so I can use it offline without problems in the future. I didn't want to do it but the site forced me to do it with their asinine solutions to protect the data they copied from Intel's website.
I don't think tor or VPN services work with bans because those services are the first that get banned so it wouldn't work anyway.
Doesn't matter now.

So do they want to help users or not? Because preventing them to use the site is not the way to help users. That happens when they are more concerned about downloads and bandwidth usage than the actual point of the site. And the majority of info comes from Intel and other CPU manufacturers so who steals from whom?

Then use Intel's (or one of the other manufacturer's website), if you think CPU World's data is just copied from there...

BTW you didn't answer my questions, so I think you don't have a glue what I'm talking about!? Intel (etc.) is big business, CPU World is a voluntary project, I guess - they made it for you, me and all of us, nothing to pay. But...Fair Use!

For the webspace where my website is located I get a bill which is over 100 EUR every year...so I'm the householder and it's my right to say "You're welcome" or "This is an abuse of my service, access denied!".

kind regards
soggi

Nah, I'm still using cpu-world but the offline version. Easier to search it. Wikipedia is also good and it has all the s-spec numbers on a single page instead of multiple ones. That's what matters if a site is there to really help.

Because it's completely and 100% irrelevant here. The site blocks users so users circumvent those blocks. But that's not how it should work if the site wants to help users. Don't be a dick.

Free VPNs maybe. Like for example the built-in Opera VPN (if it still exist) had this problem.
Decent paid VPNs and Tor in my experience not necessarily.

My personal experience with Tor is that sometimes on some exit nodes other users use up the daily page load limit, but it only takes a click to get a new identity. After 2 or 3 tries I always get one that works.

You are probably right but I don't need a 3rd party service to view a website. That's the beauty of the Internet today, there are always alternatives and alternative solutions to a problem. I just let off some steam before finding that solution.
