Hi

Currently iam being busy / working on a 286 class machine which i started a couple of years ago. I stopped quite a while because I didn't feel like continuing building the systems for a while. So let it pass me by for a while. Probably because I was very busy with my work and it all became too much for me.
In the meantime (since 2 months ago) I have become more interested again. And I also received a signal from myself that the systems had to be put together as soon as possible.
Time goes on, and parts deteriorate, of course. So you have to check/fix things quickly.
So 2 months ago I picked it up again, as I said before.
So was restarted with the Vtech laser XT 8086 computer.
This one is almost fully working. And to the extent that things have also been upgraded. This is to make it easier to use such a PC in 2021.

I'm still waiting for some things for the laser XT/3
Currently on some memory chips, as I want to add some EMS memory to it.
And I also have to replace the RLL controller with another one that I have here. The previous one has a problem. At least this is what I determined with the Ontrack Diskmanager program.
So I have to try another controller.

In the meantime also grabbed the 286 12 Mhz system and put it on the workbench.

Bought a new old hard drive a few days ago. A 420MB model
Completely satisfied, only I don't have 3.5 inch space for the housing. So I have to install it in the bottom compartment of the 5.25 inch sled.
I have an older model 3.5 inch to 5.25 inch adapter kit for this.
The front has a beige bezel with a green LED in it.
So now I want to connect this LED. (Just because it's possible)
I know that some older hard drives have a connector (jumper pin 2x1) on the back to connect an LED to it.

Now I wonder, does the conner CFS-420A also have this.? If not, do I have any alternatives? By the way, I was planning to connect the HDD LED of the housing to the disk controller card that is in the ISA slot.

~ At least it can do black and white~

If you have a standard I/O controller than they usually have a connector for HDD led.

Visit my AmiBay items for sale (updated: 2025-10-29). I also take requests 😉
