I need the latest bios and drivers for Intel DK440LX motherboard.

Looks like a cool system. Have you got a backplate for the I/O ports? What HDDs are you going to run? 10K screamers? were they out in '98?

Yeah, its a unique back I/O plate.
I will have to make one.

As for drives I want to be with-in the time period. So NO 10k rpm or 15k rpm drives.

look for your board, you will see: 430_440 series motherboards/DK440LX/
download those in Blue for the last BIOS and Manuals.
added: If you run DK440LX_dkbios10.exe it will extract the files to make a BOOT-Flash floppy disk as described in BIOINSTR.TXT. Do not try this under any Win 64bit OS...
For drivers you can get some at Rebyte.me. It uses Intel 440LX AGPset: Intel 82443LX PCI/A.G.P. controller, Intel 82371AB PCI/ISA/IDE and Adaptec AIC-7895 PCI SCSI.

I suggest you get the board up and running BEFORE trying to flash the BIOS...

Think you need to do a recount, It's a dual slot board but I see 3 CPU's 😜
Unless the 3rd is for redundancy 😉

No you don't - everything you need is in Win2k already.

Yes, I found three 333mhz CPU’s in my CPU bin. I should have more somewhere else. I have a box of Slot-1 CPU’s somewhere
In my Garage but this is all I found for now. Only two of the CPU’s have the same “Stepping” so those are the ones I used.
I had to take the original metal heatsink off in order to add these NEW heatsinks and fans.
So I have them all assembled now and placed in the motherboard.
I motherboard is all setup and ready to be installed.
I hope to finish building this computer today.

This is a 1997 motherboard. It was design for Windows NT 3.51/4.0 and SCO UNIX.
Also compatible with Sun Solaris x86, and Linux.

I really like the Startup sound of Win-NT 4.0 so I want to try this first.

For a Win-2000 computer I would want something faster like a bx440 or Intel socket 370 motherboard.

With one CPU it also supports Win95.

I am trying to setup this motherboard but its not posting.

Its an Intel dual slot-1 motherboard.
For now I am just trying one CPU and using the dummy card in the other slot.

I replaced the battery and tried different CPU’s with no success.

It will not posts.

I see the keyboard lights flash and CDROM seeks but thats all

No video out put.

No audio beeps.

I tried different video cards too.

Any ideas ?

The board only supports 60 and 66Mhz bus Pentium 2. The P2-333 was the common one used in this board from what I read but that would depend on the BIOS version. Jumper J7E1 is for 60 or 66mhz bus.
If too early version it may only support 233 and 266....my old Compaq LX came with a P2-266 just like the manual uses as an example on page 27.
Also: make sure the battery is new and the minimum ram is 16MB EDO 3.3v

Sorry about the J7E1 thing, was reading the main manual page 27 and it was talking about using a 266 and thought it had to be changed in order to set the CPU....
Yes you may need that AUX power connector. I do have a dual board that will not boot w/o it. Some older ATX PSU came with it.
You could as a test take 2 wires and run from the 20Pin 3.3 and 5v to that header (just do not confuse them) . The Ground is not needed really as all grounds should be the same.
added: I would not trust that Dell adapter as some Dells did not stick with Intels Aux connection and had the 3.3 and 5 on diff pins. Too bad they did not adhere to the RED 5v, Orange 3.3 on that adapter, etc

Yeah, I am going to try another power supply with AUX connector.

Not sure it would impact the current problem, but is this an OEM board, rather than Intel retail? - the altered assembly number (685012-509) doesn't appear in the last cumulative spec update for the board which might suggest OEM. What it does indicate is that all the xxxxxx-509 series boards are early production versions which likely shipped with matching BIOS versions - possibly around P03 (you'll need at least P08 for PII 333MHz support).

Jumper J7E1 set to pins 2-3 should force the system to the setup menu where you can set the actual installed processor speed (if the damn thing would only start!). Although it supportred 233, 266, 300MHz from the get-go, it might have issues with specific steppings of those speeds if you're on an early BIOS revision (see the attached BIOS history).

The way I read the manual, the auxilliary power connector is optional by default, but recommended for heavy load setups

"NOTE

Some heavily loaded configurations could require additional +3.3 V and +5 V power for peripherals. Use the auxiliary power connector at J1M2 for this purpose."

Other than that, the only defaults seem to be the main processor is always in the rear slot 1 position, with a terminator board in the secondary slot 1 position if not in dual processor mode and that memory can be 3.3V unbuffered 66-MHz ECC/non-ECC SDRAM or 60-ns EDO ECC/non-ECC DIMMs (100MHz DIMM support added in BIOS P10) with a max of 128MB SDRAM or 256MB EDO per memory slot.

I am waiting for a new PSU to arrive so I can continue this build.

This is really cool, I love all the photos. How are you going to arrange the SCSI disks? Two separate disks or in a RAID?
