Hi Vogons,

I have two Voodoo 2 12mb PCI cards, one is a CT6670 and the other is a Game Wizard (originally intended for iMacs). I can't get either of them to work with the latest drivers. I've tried all of the drivers on philscomputerlab.

Installing voodoo2_drivers_v3_03_00_beta_w9x_dx7 or voodoo2-30202 crashes windows 3 seconds after it boots to desktop.
Installing v2-w9x-3.01.00 or v2-w9x-3.01.01 doesn't crash windows but running DxDiag comes up with the error: The IMAGEHLP.DLL file is linked to missing export MSVCRT.DLL.
Installing creative-voodoo2-216rc1 or 3dbvw95 for the CT6670 results in the card not being found.

As far as I'm aware there doesn't appear to be any IRQ conflicts (UPDATE, Voodoo 2 isn't assigned an IRQ 😁).

I'm running a clean install of Windows 98SE with SP3. I've tested the drivers before and after installing SP3.

This is my set up:
Windows 98SE SP3
Intel 233 MMX
Asus SP97-V
S3 Virge-DX/GX 4mb
128mb EDO ram
16GB SSD
8GB Compactflash
USB drivers
No sound card
DirectX 6.1a

Asus P5A v1.06, Gigabyte GA-6BXDS, Soyo SY-5EMA (faulty), Viglen 486, Asus SP97-V

2 problems.
1st. Problem
That sp3 is cancer, all it does is cause problems. Install windows 98se with no aids infested service pack then you have a clean install. Installing sp3 or any of those service packs ontop of a clean install makes it no longer a clean install.
2nd. problem.
When running 2 voodoo cards that are not the same you need fast voodoo drivers last version. Factory drivers or those released by 3dfx don't work when no 2 voodoo cards are alike in SLI. Remember to check that the cards are running at 90mhz if you use fast voodoo drivers, becasue the drivers allow overclocking and you don't want that.

The SP3 was a late addition to see if it made an improvement on my situtation, it didn't, but it also didn't make it worse. On the plus side I have the SSD fully backup at several stages so rolling back to a clean install is no effort.

I should have mentioned it before, I'm not trying to run the cards together but individually. I don't seem to be having any luck with either of them.

Is there a program I can use to see if the cards are working properly. Either windows or DOS would be great.

Thanks for you time.

in DOS... Use the relevant 3dfx binary for your specific games (descent2, tombraider, etc). Probably best to try with one card installed at a time to simplify things...

In windows... not sure how you're gonna test the card without drivers working... as per previous advice, start with a clean 98se install, try reference drivers with correct minigl installed for your game if necessary (quake2, hexen2, etc.)

were these cards working at some point? did you check to make sure no pins are bent and touching, etc.?

P1: Packard Bell - 233 MMX, Voodoo1, 64 MB, ALS100+
P2-V2: Dell Dimension - 400 Mhz, Voodoo2, 256 MB
P!!! Custom: 1 Ghz, GeForce2 Pro/64MB, 384 MB

Yes all checked. They were working before and I think I've got iMac card working with the lastest FastVoodoo drivers but trying to run the demos included with the driver package hangs the PC. I think the problem with the CT6670 is that it has faulty ram chips, here is a video of it in action (rendering in software): https://youtu.be/rGSBd0MuluY.

Thanks for your reply
