Hi there,
I'm setting up a rig with a Shuttle mobo HOT-591P. ( It's a Baby AT - Super Socket 7 Mobo with a K6 266Mhz at the moment )
I've updated the BIOS to the last version and I've been using an IDE to Sata adapter to use a 2.5" SSD Drive.
To achieve this I've been using this card with its IDE connector : ( VIA VT6421A )
When the computer starts, after POST the "bios" of this card is displayed and then it boots from SSD.
And it performs very well !
However... if I connect the card directly to the SSD with a SATA cable.... nothing happens. The "bios" of the card doesn't show up and I'm getting an error stating there's no way to boot. ( usual message ) and Fdisk says "No fixed disk"
So... I bought the same card but without the "optional" Raid feature... twice. ( VIA VT6421A )
Now it's even worst ! These cards don't do anything. I mean, no bios showing up, no boot possible, Fdisk says "no fixed disk"... with both IDE and SATA
I tried to give a shoot with a FastTrack (Raid) card :
It works ! But I need to build a raid.
For my last try I used a SIL3114 Sata Card which also includes a raid bios...
And it works + boots directly without having to create an array... but this card is really crappy under windows98 - the drivers is not working well - so I don't want to use that card.
My conclusion based on observation :
All cards without a RAID Bios don't work at all.
The Card with IDE+SATA AND a Raid Bios works.... only using IDE.
Cards having SATA only connectors AND Raid Bios work.
I don't have any SATA only cards without Raid Bios to test
But I've NO Idea why this is occurring. I'll try to use them on another Mobo later this week.
In the mean time, if someone has an idea, that would be great 😀
Thanks !
