I've had this M200 convertible notebook for many years. It's kind of beat-up, but for some reason I've become very fond of it.
A couple years ago (maybe less) it was sitting on the floor under my desk, plugged-in because the battery lasted about 20 seconds and the cmos battery was dead; so I kept it plugged-in so I didn't have to go into the bios every boot.
When I got home from work the next morning, my water heater had ruptured and the entire apartment was flooded. The Toshiba's power supply was green with that fungus-looking growth, and I had to use a stick to unplug the power strip from the wall to keep from being shocked.
I gave it up for dead, since the PS was in such bad shape.
A few months ago, I dug it up, debating about tossing it. I decided to buy a new power supply (not too expensive on ebay) and see if it still worked at all.
Ta -daaa... it worked just fine.
So I ordered a cmos battery, a regular battery, and 2gb of ram (upgrade from 1gb; with 1gb GIMP crawled.).
Just installed the cmos battery today, but she's been working fine.
I started to play my favorite mahjong game, Kyodai Mahjong, and the fan started making noise. That's when I took apart, replaced the cmos battery, sprayed the fan and everything down with an air duster. The fan still makes a little noise when it comes on, but it's not quite as bad. I'd like to replace it with a new one. I hate buying a junked M200 for the part, especially since its fan could be almost as bad off. So if anyone knows of a fan that might work as a replacement in a 12" notebook, please let me know.
Also, I decided I want to upgrade the HD; it currently has a 2.5" 60gb ATA IDE hard drive in it. an ST960815A iirc.
I was wondering if there was an SSD I could install that was bigger than 64gb and was IDE (and not ruinously expensive)?
If not, can anyone tell me the largest practical capacity hard drive I could put in a machine of that era running Windows XP? 160gb would make me happy, but if I could put a 320 or 500 gb... why not?
Thanks for any advice!
