There are quite a few limited PCs out there, limited by the number of ISA slots, often having only 1 or even none at all (e.g. Schneider EuroPC (1), Atari PC1 (0)).

For other vintage platforms there are IDE boards that go into the CPU socket (e.g. for the Atari ST (“Lightning ST”)) – is a similar project available for the home of the IDE interface – (8088, 8086) PCs?

Whether it's possible or not depends on whether having an IRQ is an unavoidable requirement for PC Compatible IDE. I think it's not. In that case, it should be possible to adapt an XTIDE design to work in an 8088 socket.

I don't believe any currently exist though. If an interrupt is a hard requirement it could be done by having a wire that solders to the correct pin of the correct interrupt controller.

Old precedes antique.
