Combining Speed Step and CPUSPD to hit DX2-33.

I know I already have a thread about this laptop the Toshiba 2805-s402 dubbed Ultimate retro laptop. I felt this deserved its own thread.

A popular talking point... that in order for somthing to be good it must meet all of these criteria One Criteria is it must be able to hit this magical speed. Idk who actually plays these games, but some people do play games like the original wing commander and commander keen. They always get brought up here and there, and if it can't be slowed down to play that than it automatically sucks.

We cant rely purely on speedsys becasue fast FPUs skew the results. However it's useful to us for looking at our Clock Freq, External Clock Freq, and memory speed. Instead were going to Focous mainy on DOOM benchmark scores and compare them to other CPUs. If anyone knows of another benchmark that doesn't scale with FPU let me know. FPU doesn't matter as the only games that would really use that is quake. Old games like wing commander don't use FPU.

First we boot to windows and throttle down the CPU with toshiba Power Saver utility. Early speed step implentation actually change the CPU multiplier somhow. Normal mutiplier is 8.5 on this laptop. With speed step enabled it changes the CPU multiplier to 7. The utlity also allows for throtling the the CPU but the lowest it will go is 2/8. This is where cpuspd comes in.

CPUspd you can throttle the CPU to 1/8 and disable the L2 cache. Tricky thing here is were no longer throttling 1/8 of 8.5 where throttleing 1/8 of 7.

Now we run the DOOM benchmark on high details. We get a score of 2134 gametics in 6273 realtics. This result in a score of 11.9 FPS. 11/12 FPS is eqivelent to a DX2-33 so there you go.

If we use CPU speed again with the current settings and set the throttle at 2/8 of 7x we get 2134 gametics in 3053 realtics that gets us 24FPS this is very close to a Dx2-66 Another Magical speed number. So there you have it.
