Hi.

It's only today that I learned that Voodoo6 6000 was not the fastest VSA-100 based piece of hardware.

Apparently, Quantum TX 8464 was, featuring 16 VSA-100 chips, but the information is really scarce:

PDF manuals (attached) are still available via the Web Archive, as well as the drivers (aalchemy.zip).

Questions:

  1. Does anyone here happen to own this board?
  2. Has anyone tried to extract 3Dfx DLLs (Glide3x.dll & friends) out of the Quantum-shipped drivers and reuse them with a regular VSA-100 3Dfx board (4500 to 6000)?

They're not really faster than the 6000, as they only do AA. So it's more like a 4500.

You can check Gary's website for more info :

If anyone is interested, I uploaded some BIOS dumps here: http://sdz-mods.com/index.php/2020/06/22/q3d-aa5-bios/ .
I don't think there are any other dumps on the net, so feel free to reupload them.

Actually, they can get much faster than V4 4500. I remember some people tried these cards in faster systems and there were significant performance gains with 4xAA or noAA.
But it is not very practical to use them for games anyway...
