I've tried parallel port converters and they aren't working in the game I want to play.

Looks like a game port solution is the answer, but I'm not seeing any old PC controllers that I like.

Are there any products that can convert my trusty console controllers to a game port?

I believe you can plug the Sega 9 pin controllers into an Atari/C64 joystick adapter and get up/down/left/right and one fire button.

Unicorn herding operations are proceeding, but all the totes of hens teeth and barrels of rocking horse poop give them plenty of hiding spots.

I've done that before, but this is for a DOS computer.

Right, I was mentioning it because adapters for 9pin digital to PC gameport seem easier to find/get.

Early Sega (Master System) controllers with directionals and two buttons use a simple parallel interface. These would be the best bet for a DIY adaptor. https://www.epanorama.net/documents/joystick/ … c_circuits.html Later Sega controllers are backwards compatible but would likely need a microcontroller or CPLD if you want to poll the additional buttons. https://www.zerker.ca/home/sega-genesis-to-ga … -converter.html

SNES pads use more of a serial protocol.
