I have a odd one here.

ATAPI CD-ROM works w/o issue when attached to an ESS audiodrive. I want to replace it with a SB16 but it doesn't have a IDE interface... so I attach it to the secondary IDE interface on my IDE controller.

This is where it gets odd. When booting the VIDECCD.SYS driver is not detecting the CD-ROM drive, BUT when i load up hwinfo & diags both see the drive and report the proper branding (Samsung) and even the firmware version of the CD-ROM drive.

While having a CD-ROM is not strictly needed... its def a nice to have.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Cold

Make sure the drive is set to master if it's the only drive on the cable, IRQ 15 is not in use by anything else, and you are using the parameter "/P:170,15" with VIDECCD.SYS.

Well I have that a try and no dice. BUT I was able to get it working with the XDVD2.SYS driver. So far so good.

Thank you

My first go-to Cdrom driver for years has been an Oak driver. I also have used VIDE-CDD.sys but found it had some issues with some older cdrom drives where the Oak driver did not. just my experience....

Hate posting a reply and then have to edit it because it made no sense 😁 First computer was an IBM 3270 workstation with CGA monitor. Stuff: https://archive.org/details/@horun
