[Newbie question] How to translate DOSBox using the existing translated file?

I want to translate DOSBox to my language, but translation to it already exists.

I want to use it as a base for my own translation (with fixes, additions and such).

Where can I find the language source files and manual/howto on its formats,
software to use, and testing my translation with DOSBox?

I think you could use the existing language file as base, then run the command to write a language file, "CONFIG -writelang /PathToNewFile", to see whether it contains (new) non-translated text.
