Fun with xt-ide on a dual pentium

I have the following hardware/software lined up for this fun experiment

Tyan s1564d
233(x2) p1 mmx
512mb simm memory
Blue lava xt-ide
Dos 6.22
Freedos
Windows 3.11
Windows ME
Windows xp sp2

I started off with getting dos working
Which is pretty easy using the card that the xt-ide came with it had it all pre installed.

Next I set up windows 3.11, which took a few tries to get right but eventually got it loaded and running. Sheesh it’s been 20 years since I last used 3.11 let alone by keyboard only 🤣

Next I tried to load windows 95c realized it was too large for the 64mb thought, windows 95 vanilla, but then decided, what the heck, let’s just skip straight to ME on a different 1gb card

So I used rfus to make it a free dos boot disk and then copied the ME install files to the card
The rest is pretty standard, browse to setup, start setup, etc. and that’s where I am now.

It’s going really slowly… the 8-bit isa or 1gb flash card or both are suuuuper slow

Later I plan on trying to get xp on a 6gb micro drive! :p

So I tried a thing….

Windows 7 setup, it’s not going to work on this board because of lack of acpi, but look at that, it works!

You know what this means….
Holy crap, I can use the xt-ide like a usb windows install stick. On older machines that don’t support usb booting!!!

This will come in handy, I’m sick of cd errors..

Now on to xp,

I did rfus again but this time with the xp sp2 cd

Afterward I used IM-magic partition resizer to shrink the partition and move it to the end of the drive.

I will see if it still boots now.

If it does I may get a xp install with dual boot to xp and to xp setup🤔💁‍♂️ I will try and use xp setup to make the new partition.

Edit: tries to boot, resets, moved partition to beginning and same thing, trying one more time this time leaving it alone as rfus makes it.see what it does.

Looks like xp install disk imaged to the sd card just doesn’t want to boot here. Not sure why, it leads to the system resetting a second or two after it attempts to boot
