Hey all.

I have this 486 machine that I've had for a while. Pretty standard 486 all around, but It has a battery modification that looks like it uses a battery pack as a replacement for its old CMOS battery.

Recently I noticed that the date and time were slowly lagging behind if the machine had been off for a week or so. So I'm immediately thinking: Okay its a dead cmos battery. But the thing is, even when the computer is off for a week or more, it still retains its bios settings like hard disk information and memory timings. Still, the time lags behind. But... if the cmos battery was dead, the bios would forget its settings... right? Even weirder, I just powered it on yesterday after it was off for just a few days and the time was correct to the minute. That makes me believe that somehow the clock completely stops only after more then a few days off.

Other than the annoyance of having to fix the system time, everything else is working just fine.

If it is just a battery replacement. Then I would need to figure out the specs of the replacement battery.

Thanks all.
