There have been a few discussions here throughout the years, but I haven't seen any absolute conclusions.
I would like to know if there is an AM2 motherboard with an AGP slot, that works in Windows Vista and later.
I know of boards with these features, but they are all nforce 3 chip, which doesn't have proper GART drivers in Vista and up.

So my question is, has anyone here ACTUALLY got such a system running? Phenom Quad core, Vista or later OS, AGP graphics card.

Thanks.

Basically everything else for AM2 used PCI-e.

AM2 Motherboards with AGP Slots

Few exceptions, mostly MSI K9MM-V and Biostar K8M800.

or later OS

If you look outside of Windows, nF3 isn't a limitation. Until last year I ran Ubuntu Linux on an nF3 board with Phenom II X4 (ASRock AM2NF3-VSTA), only "upgraded" to newer system after I needed a PCIe GPU for something.

I can't find any info on if those boards actually support Phenom quad cores, according to the official CPU support pages they only support X2 CPUs. Which is why I'm asking if someone has actually tried before I sink money into more hardware 😜

The purpose of AGP is to be able to install Windows 98. Socket AM2 will be too fast anyway (frequency wise) and Windows 98 won't be aware of the extra cores. On Socket AM2 you also want to have more than 512MB RAM but Windows 98 has problems with that out of box. In my opinion AGP and AM2 is a conflicting requirement.

It's better to completely skip AM2 and go for AM3 as it supports DDR3 and PCIe 2.0. Get a fast PCIe 3.0 graphics card and a quad core CPU. Use Windows 7 as operating system.
For AGP use 440BX, KT133, KT400/600, nForce2/3 with Windows 98/XP.
