I never played Theme Hospital before, but it looked fun and I've been trying to give it a go on some original hardware - an 850MHz PIII running Win98 SE with an Nvidia TI4200, Yamaha OPL3 w/ Waveblaster X2GS for MIDI.

The original CD contains both a DOS and Windows version of the game. I am able to get the DOS version installed and working and everything seems to work, although the DOS version is fixed at 60Hz, and I'd rather play it from within Win98 if I could since there is a native Windows version of the game.

The trouble is as soon as I get through the intros and menus and into the game, the mouse freezes up and the game stops accepting input after 1-10 seconds. The music keeps playing, the days on the in-game calendar keep flipping by, but I can't click on anything or even exit the game. The only way I can get out of it is to reset my PC. I tried a few different ISOs (mounted virtually as well as burning physical CDs), applied the instapatch on the CD, but that unfortunately no change.

I tried searching, but all I could find were people trying to TH working on Windows XP, Windows 7, Windows 10, etc. No real mention of why it wouldn't like Windows 98. Anyone know how to get it working?

Thanks in advance,
Matt.

The only solution I found was to run this on a slower PC - 266MHz worked well.
