Hi all out there,

today I tried to start my old Abit board.
the only information I have of the board can be found here:
https://catal0g.net/?tab=PC_MAIN&id=283
in the row "details" you find the Dram-Jumper settings
but the meaning it is not clear for me
I try to configure 2x8MB PS/2 (EDO)Ram with bank0 sim9D bank1 sim9D bank2 sim10D bank3 sim10D
but it don't working (beeping sounds like choked dog 😀
I would like try to test other combinations, but the dram jumper configuration confuse me
the board got 10 Slots 2x72pin ps/2 8xsim30pin, the first 4 sims called Bank 0 the other 4 sim-slots named Bank 1
the two ps/2 got no label

Thax for any Help

Bernhard

Tiido is right !. There are other sources which have the jumper settings and basic info:
For AN4: https://www.ultimateretro.net/en/motherboards/71
AN4 R2: https://www.ultimateretro.net/en/motherboards/4546
AN4T: https://www.ultimateretro.net/en/motherboards/73

Hate posting a reply and then have to edit it because it made no sense 😁 First computer was an IBM 3270 workstation with CGA monitor. Stuff: https://archive.org/details/@horun

it is the same source like on catal0g.net: total hardware 99
but it is not clear what is bank 0/1/2/3 realy
it seems you determine this with jumper settings

You have seen this page with all jumper settings? https://stason.org/TULARC/pc/motherboards/A/A … ON-486-AN4.html

It looks like if you use 2 simms 1 should go in bank 0 and one in bank 1

... But you are right its pretty confusing.

I know EDO support only few boards, but I've got only single-side FPM
and I find no jumper config for 2x ...or 1x ss 72pin
I even not sure if my jumper setting is correct for 2x double side 72pin sim
but the DRAM-Configuration Table says: almost all configurations are possible

EDO will not work on vast majority of 486 board (including this one), you need FPM memory.

I know this site too, there I found the manual for a AM4-2 (in very bad resolution)
but it says the jumper-config-table by th99 is right

Found some of the original manual pages for AN4 at https://www.elhvb.com/mboards/abit/Index.html which helps explain a bit about the jumper settings.
Ran the .exe's and printed them out. First You must use FPM and Parity simms (typically 9 chip per simm)
Ok so the Jumpers alter which memory banks are read first and if the 72pin SIMMS are Single or Double sided. If set wrong and no memory are in the first bank read it will error.
By default jumpered the 30 pin simm 1 to 4 are bank 0, 30 pin simm 5 to 8 are bank 1. Then 72pin simm 9 is bank 2 and 72 pin simm 10 is bank 3. Default jumpers_30pin_then_72pin
By changing the jumpers you can set the 72 pin simms as bank 0 and bank 1, with 30 pin as bank 2 and 3.
Example: If you have two 4Mb 72 pin simms with 9 chips (single side- single banked) and some or no 30 pin simms then you jumper like: jumpers 72pin single then 30pin
If using 8Mb 72pin simms with 18 chips (double sided - double banked) then you jumper like because each simm takes up 2 banks like : jumpers 72pin double then 30pin
If just using 4 - 30 pin simms in 1 to 4 then jumper as default. Same if you use 8 - 30 pin simms..

Hi Horun,
thank you very much, I'd know this site too (the site with the an4-2 man in bad resolution)
but I did not try to use the exe-files. First I'm running Linux here
second, I did not see, that are manual pages
I'm afraid got no parity FPM, will check my other old boards
if there some RAM left 😀
Yesterday I'd tried 4x4MB 30 pin sim as Bank 0 and 2x4MB 72Pin Bank 1+2
with config in line #7.
It recognize ~896k mem 😀

so, first I'll check you new infos an try to config 4x4MB 30 Pin sim on bank 0
I will report on my progress
