Has anyone ever had any luck in refitting non-ibm floppy drive and/or harddrive in a PS/2 Model 35 (type 8535)?

As far as floppy is concerned, I tried to do the mods I found on the web in adding the pullups to 8, 26, 28, 30, 34, rerouting power and grounding pin 4 etc. But the bios complains about it not being a media sensing drive and refuses to read from it, even though it seeks and all. XTIDE bios also fails to boot from it and just crashes the system to a reboot.

As for the harddrive I tried multiple period appropriate IDE drives, while using XT-IDE they work fine, scandisk gives a clean bill of health. When I remove XT-IDE all I get is I9990301 errors, even thoug I did run autoconfig.
And perhaps someone can recommend a solution for mounting a 3.5" disk in those rails. I can't find anything on ebay. Neither can I locate the part number for a harddrive sled for an 8535.

Sorry no, have you checked the Model 35 drive tables to see what it accepted ? The 40MB and optional 80Mb probably had specific H-C-S that the bios supported (compared to a clone in 1991 that had probably 4o diff HD's in drive table) or probably am wrong ;p

Hate posting a reply and then have to edit it because it made no sense 😁 First computer was an IBM 3270 workstation with CGA monitor. Stuff: https://archive.org/details/@horun

Well then maybe patching the bios could help here? I wasn't sure it is limited to a specific set of drives. And it doesn't say that it did not find the drive in it's table or anything, just that it failed to read the boot sector, according to the error code.
