There used to be an option in Windows 7 called the Troubleshoot tab in Display properties where I could change the level of graphics acceleration level. However, after years of using Windows 10 and 11, I see that this option doesn't exist anymore. Was this option moved somewhere else? Or does it mean I can't use software acceleration?

If you are talking about WARP then disable your video card in device manager or use dgvoodoo to use it.

If you are talking about the hardware acceleration slider for DirectX, I haven't had to use that past Windows XP/2003. Since DWM is mandatory as of Windows 8 it was likely removed but mabye the ACT or dgvoodoo (or similar) can do whatever it is you want to do.

I think the same.
When was the last time that non-DirectX drivers, XPDM drivers (with native GDI support), were supported?
That was before Windows 8, I believe.

I looked at a WikiHow and the screenshot suggests the option is still there:

I don't know if a shim exists for SW acceleration, can you direct me what that shim is?

Screenshots for the options are available on later versions of Windows. Can that mean they are using XPDM legacy drivers there?
