Known Carmageddon Crash

First off I would like to say, after purchasing GliDOS and playing the first two levels of Carmageddon with perfect FPS and ridiculous sound quality, THANK YOU.

My question is a quick and simple one.

I'm having the pre-stated crashing problem on the first snow level. I did read about it before purchasing and I am fine with it, but just need more explanation on working around it, bypassing the level/crash etc. Any help is greatly appreciated.

The only way anyone has found aroung the problem so far is to run through those levels in software mode.

Sorry to ask yet again, But i'm unclear as how to go about doing that. I'm sure it's simple and I just don't understand what you mean by running it in software mode.

Not sure myself, especially not having it installed anywhere at the moment.
I believe the 3dfx patch adds a new exe file, but leaves the old one present. So you just need to double-click the old exe.

Ok, Seems to have worked.

I just ran the old exe with VDMS and it seems to have worked.

Thank you for the help!

Run CARM95.EXE if you have it (don't forget about the -hires trick), if not, then just get SoundFX 2000, I guarantee perfect sound, drop that VDMS trash already.

What problems have you had with VDMSound? Always worked fine for me.

The problem we are dealing with here is the 3dfx version crashing in certain levels. Are you saying that has something to do with VDMS, and that using SoundFX 2000 will help?

The problem is that it never does what it's supposed to do, no matter the config, I'm getting the same old screwed up sound as VDMS wasn't there.

The "and ridiculous sound quality" comment suggested me he could be having problems with VDMS, besides, I've never experienced a crash playing Carmageddon under Glidos + SoundFX 2000, not even playing the level mentioned below.

I think he meant rediculously good sound quality. I may be wrong.

That you haven't had a crash in that level is very interesting. It is possible that it has to do with VDMSound. I may try some experiments under W98, where I can try without VDMSound.

I will say though that VDMSound has worked brilliantly for me.

Sorry for not replying sooner..but

Yes I did mean good sound quality.

And I got the crashing levels to work by not using GliDOS. Just running the exe with VDMSound. It runs, just in really low res.

I just completed those levels and saved and then go back and run with GliDOS and load.
