can someone help me what CPU Type Jumper Settings i have to set for an AMD 486DX2 66 CPU ?
On the Board was a AMD 486DX 33 before, now i have to change the jumper but with the manual im not sure what to choose.
There is a Cyrix DX2 66, SL Enhanced DX2 66 and AMD 486DX2"L" Setting. Im not sure..
Can i use the Cyrix settings for an AMD?

https://www.philscomputerlab.com/uploads/3/7/ … 2gx4_manual.pdf

Thats my settings atm:

The attachment IMG_3998.JPG is no longer available

edit: I tryed now SL enhanced (non SL) setting. HWInfo say i have a Intel 486 and i cant use L2 Chache. So i think its wrong CPU Type.

Dos 6.22: Asus VL/I-486SV2GX4 Rev 2.0 1Mb L2 - A5x86 X5 P75 - 64MB - AHA-2842A VLB - ET4000W32P VLB - CT2230 - MPU-401AT with YucatanFX / Roland CM64
Win98SE: Asus XG DLS 1x SL4XY - SG Voodoo 5 6000 PCI - 1GB RAM ECC- Audigy 2 ZS - MX300

There are several types of AMD 486DX2/66.

Most likely you have a non-enhanced, non-L type. So the jumpers of a non enhanced 486 Intel (or AMD)
Cyrix setting is wrong for sure.

How does your CPU look like? Picture?

thx.
So use that:
Hardware trap: first group

The attachment hardware-trap.png is no longer available

Cyrix/intel => Use intel.

The attachment cyrix-intel.png is no longer available

and the main jumper like an intel DX

The attachment cpu-jump.png is no longer available

I tryed, but i cant use L1 with L2 cache. Only L1 or L2 otherwise system dont boot.
I also try some changes with my RAM and external cache like 64mb and 1MB , or 32MB and 256kb.

Does the AMD DX work (L1 and L2) with the jumper settings that I posted?

yes, but only L1 or L2 not with both enabled.
I did also serval bios resets. When i enable both the system stops before starting dos line comes up.

disable L2 system boots fine:

enable both no boot:

this also happen before i upgrade the cache with 256kb.. Thats why im thinking it have to be something with the cpu.
But maybe it has also something todo with the I/O controller.

This looks like your SRAMs are either bad or too slow for your choosen timings.
You should have checked the problem before upgrading to 1024kb cache, the ISSI 61C1024 chips from china are problematic.

please let L1 and L2 always be enabled and then...
1) When you remove the IO controller completely , what is the last thing that is written on the screen?
2) Do you have now in advanced chipset configuration: AUTO? If no enable auto and try again. If yes, disable AUTO and choose the slowest possbile L2 cache settings. 3-2-2-2 read and 3T write.
To be on the safe side you can set:
DRAM Burst Speed: Slower
DRAM Write Wait State: 1WS
Cache Burst Read: 2T
Cache Write Cycle: 3T

Does it work then?

i found the problem...
My Bios Version. I used the latest Beta bios File.
I burn the Chip again with the Version before 0402 and now its working fine with L1+L2..
Maybe a bad write or the beta i dont know, but its working now!

Great.
If you have a programmer, then I would recommend this Bios version though: Beta + L2 write back fix:

Where can i find it?
I really struggle with the CPU Type Jumper Settings..
I just buy another CPU a Cyrix because its documented in the manual.
AMD support for older CPUs is really pain in the ass on this rev 2 board. It looks like Intel and Cyrix is the way you go with it.
I now run the cpu with the jumper Settings from the older REVs and it should work better as before.
But i think its still not correct, because the older REvs dont have the Jumper 21 and 22.
I double cross test all my components and im sure it comes from the cpu type settings.

Anyway when i activate L1 and L2 cache in the bios i see they both on the bootscreen showing up. But when i than run HwInfo or cachechk it says i dont have L2 Cache???
Is that the L2 Fix?

AMD CPUs before the DX4 or the Enhanced DX2 are identical to Intel CPUs. AMD had a license to manufacture the original Intel design. So you don't need any documentation for a standard 5V AMD DX2, because it should work exactly the same as an Intel DX2. If it does not work that way, either the processor or the mainboard is broken.

Man, I wrote you the exact jumper settings. What is the problem? You don't believe me?

The fix is for L2 operating in write back mode. It enables the dirty bit (it was discussed here already extensively). It does NOT fix the unavailability of the L2 cache.

Could you please point a link to the bios? I tried to find it with google but without any luck.
Thank you in advance.

Google? You need to search it on Vogons of course!
I will search for it.

No need to fool around with the jumper setting, Intel DX ones are 100% right for AMD DX or DX2.
Also CPU issue is very, very unlikely.
It could be indeed a broken trace to one of the SRAM sockets. You can provide high res-pictures of the area where the 8 data chip sockets are + the area where the tag ram socket is located.
Also I would recommend to revert your change with the SRAM, so put back the 256kB that were in before. Was it 8 times 32kx8 + one 32kx8 or 4 times 64kx8 + one 32kx8?

EDIT: Also for searching errors, it's better to NOT test with the maximum of possible RAM. So just leave one memory stick inside the board to test the L2 cache: Either a single 16MB stick or a single 32MB stick (I do not know how your configuration of the 64MB was).
