Just curious....
Bad idea?
Was it tried and failed?

I either fix it or break it permanently... there is no try.

I think the potential results and how they will be moderated of bad trades (faulty hardware), paid and not arrived/damaged during shipment, it's a major concern. For this to work we will have to heavily rely on the users decency/common sense.
Forum based buy/sell can work well, but the few places I’m a member where it works are country specific (UK only), are heavily moderated by a decent sized team, day-in-day out, have a custom “trust” system (think eBay feedback), and finally have strict entry requirements (minimum age of account PLUS minimum post count). Strict rules around profiteering and no professional/businesses allowed either.
Very rare for anyone to get scammed, but it is definitely a time consuming thing to moderate and run, all for an end result that’s typically only 5-10% cheaper than eBay, and I can see why the Vogons team don’t want to run one.
This thread is the original announcement that the VOGONs forum operators don't want trading here: VOGONS is no marketplace!
Amibay is proof that a specialized sales forum can work well especially outside the mass of sellers, people with little culture typical of ebay. A possible "Vogons Market" would instead be populated exclusively by enthusiasts with enormous pedigrees, very high knowledge and above all it would be populated by hardware of the highest historical value without the ebay junk. Amibay is too focused on Amiga, it needs a PC only slot.

At least after the last update there is a dedicated PC section for both software & hardware, pc stuff are not in the "other" section anymore

Amibay is an Amiga Kingdom, is a de-facto Commodore centric. There are no "vogons" pieces of hardware for sale except rarely.

Hehehe "other" section... I can understand our Amiga friends 😀
For them the pc folks are outsiders that speak a different language
Well I own a few amigas andI love them as much as my pcs but I have to admit I have far more knowlege of the pc platform
Unfortunatly in the currend f.ed up environment we live in this forum cannot give itself the luxury of having such a liability
It would probsbly be showered with lawsuits from disgrunted member witch trades had gone wrong and flooded with whining petty individuals
Long gone are the days where people could trade freely on the internet without being imediatly scamed and robed
I used to trade all sorts of stuff online, even send money on envelopes and never had an issue
Now with the "Internet for all" means all kinds oh human trash is out here lurking...
So we have to resort to ebays where we pay a 20% "security" premium
Sorry about my rant but I dont think vogons will ever have a trade section
Thanx for asking though

Another prloblem is that we retro aficionados tend to have extreme alergy at parting with any piece of our collection 😀
I suspect there would be a 10 to 1 buyers to sellers ratio or worse.. 😀
Amibay does work well, but many (most?) sellers seem to ship exclusively to EU countries, so if you don't live there you only have access to a fraction of the stuff that's for sale. And considering that it's more focused on Amiga than PC it's kind of difficult to find specific vintage PC items.
