This is my first post and not sure if this is the best place, but here goes...

I need to read some Sony DTF tapes. I have a DTF tape drive, and occasionally need to send it low-level commands like "recover" to make the drive mount tapes that were ejected improperly. The manual tells of some Sony tape software called "scsitool.exe" but I've been unable to find it (and there's a RS232 utility called remo.exe I can't find, either).

I'd also like to update the firmware from its current version (1.00) so if anybody has some firmware files ....

Any suggestions gratefully received.

I have a Sony Tape Tool v1.039 which I use with my Sony SDT-9000 SCSI DDS drive. Do you want to see if the utility will work with your drive as well?

There is no way to search for a firmware update without knowing the exact model # of your tape drive.

Hate posting a reply and then have to edit it because it made no sense 😁 First computer was an IBM 3270 workstation with CGA monitor. Stuff: https://archive.org/details/@horun

Thanks for the offer!

I've got that software too, but it doesn't have the ability to issue the "recover" command, unfortunately.

This seems like the latest advisory firmware-wise, but thru their ServicesPLUS portal https://www.servicesplus.sel.sony.com/

Not had much luck tracking down scsitool.exe either 🙁

So weird can find firmware for most older Sony DDS tape products (sdk, sdt, sdx, etc) and the LIB* series but not much on the GY series.
Here is a brochure: http://web.archive.org/web/20040720160736/htt … 20_finalrev.pdf
and some tools for NT and Win2k: http://web.archive.org/web/20030325194055if_/ … d=20070&d=10006
but they do not download...

Thanks, knowing the names (dtfw2k.exe and dtf2nt.exe) is one small step forward, but like you, can't find a sniff of them on the web. Even tried BitTorrent!
