I just want to open a new thread about my project. To much changed, many testing done and overall this would be more complete.
So the goal is to put a V5 6000 to the limit!
But it has to be a win98SE build. What makes it difficult if you want the 66MHz PCI speed but also use the limited OS ressources.
The P35 ICH9 chipset is not supported. But i managed to find a board with a mod on chipset driver i got it working.
I still waiting for some parts, but my tests before show this will be push the voodoo to the max.
So what i done, first is getting a V6000 remake. I choose the Strange God PCI with 256MB SD-RAM. Testet some PCI-X boards, the best i think is for my project the Asus P5k-WS.
It runs the voodoo without problems and with full 66MHz on the PCI-X.
Installed quick Win98SE with a slow CPU gives me around 10K on 3dmark 2000. But how far it can go with the fastest Core2Duo the 8600?
First at all i had a look on the voodoo. Checking the hotspots. Its not really a need to done this but why not if you got such beast i not stop.
So First i did some cooling mods on my v6000. I replace the Fans for Noctuas, also repleaced the TP with Kryonaut extreme. At least i add some coolers to keep the temps down.
So the Voodoo is ready to do the magic, more parts will come soon. Cant wait to setup this system.
The Parts i want to use are:
MB: Asus P5k-WS P35
CPU: E8600 3,33GHz - 1333FSB - 6MB L2 @ custom water cooling goal 4,5GHz
GPU: Voodoo 5 6000 Strange God 256MB PCI @ AmigaMerlin 2.9
RAM: 2x 1GB Corsair 1066
SSD: 500GB 970 Evo on Sata bus board
CD: Sony IDE DVD Drive
PSU: be quiet! 650W
SPU: Soundblaster Audigy 2 ZS
OS: Win98SE custom chipset driver
The Voodoo scale very good on L2 Chache. So it will be interessting to see what 6MB did! The Core2Duo is there the max you should go for based on Win98.
Updates follow..
Dos 6.22: Asus VL/I-486SV2GX4 Rev 2.0 1Mb L2 - A5x86 X5 P75 - 64MB - AHA-2842A VLB - ET4000W32P VLB - CT2230 - GUS ACE - MPU-401AT with YucatanFX
Win98SE: Asus P5K-WS - E8600 @ 4,5GHz - Strange God Voodoo 5 6000 PCI-X - 2GB DDR2 1066 - Audigy 2 ZS
