I wanted to test this socket 7 board: Abit AB-PR5. Using a known working PSU and acer lcd monitor, all I got on the screen was: no signal.
Tried 4 different video cards, S3 Trio64, S3 Virge, Tseng ET4000 (all PCI) and a tseng ET4000 ISA.
No signal.
Also tried a ViewSonic VX924: no signal!!!!??

Any ideas?

After checking for beep codes, that is where a POST test card would come in handy. Then check voltages across the board...

Also - stupid simple stuff like reseating RAM & CPU helped me a suprising amount of times.

I couldn’t find a working speaker and I seem to have misplaced my beeper.
Weird, this board has been working fine until a few months ago where I swapped it for a board with a 233MMX.
The Abit board has a Pentium 166.

You mean you swapped out the processor and it's no longer working? Did you check all the jumpers and make sure they are set correctly?

THe ABIT PR5 does have multi vregs but the r2 manual says only 3.3 and 3.5v and one undocumented setting,,,,,a bit odd for a VX board to only support those voltages. The Asus VX board supports a wide variety..

Hate posting a reply and then have to edit it because it made no sense 😁 First computer was an IBM 3270 workstation with CGA monitor. Stuff: https://archive.org/details/@horun

No, I swapped the entire board because it already had a 233MMX installed. Amptron PM-8600 iirc.
The PR5 seems very dead, not even a speaker signal.
I’m going to use it for soldering practice.
