Hey so I've been trying to fix up a weird old trash find pc that uses this motherboard

https://theretroweb.com/motherboards/s/trigem-anaheim2

I was nearly done setting pretty much everything up but I noticed that the DVD drive wasn't working, it was the last job I needed to complete the system so I tried swapping the drive from 2000 with a 2005 drive.

But when I booted windows 98 and it reached the desktop it mentioned something about 16 bit and 32 bit drivers and that it was going to restart the pc and do something to stop any issues, unfortunately I didn't take a picture and didn't think of much of it at that moment.

Since after it restarted both the CD and DVD drive vanished from my computer.

And it shows warnings in device manager and gives an error 10 any one know what the problem is?

If you remove 2005 drive, do things return to normal?

Are you working on a clean installation of Win98?

After watching many YouTube videos about older computer hardware, YouTube began recommending videos about trains - are they trying to tell me something?

Try: remove the IDE Controller from Device manager and shut off, remove the DVD from the controller, start computer and check device manager for flags, let it scan for drivers if a flag found..... just a suggestion that has worked for me...

Hate posting a reply and then have to edit it because it made no sense 😁 First computer was an IBM 3270 workstation with CGA monitor. Stuff: https://archive.org/details/@horun

Advice is free and worth twice the price - I've had such poor luck trying to repair old installations of Windows 98 that I never bother to try anymore.

Well I do happen to be a bit of habitual masochist so I figured may as well trouble myself with some good ol microsoft jank.
