I need help. No one of my dos games work.
When I start a game I get the first screen and then the game locks up. What should I do?
I have winxp and the games worked fine before.

Wow. How do we even start this discussion?
They are not working for the same reason that pumping diesel fuel into an electric car will not work.

The short version is that there is no DOS in WinXP, just a command prompt that supports some of the features of DOS.
If you need advice for a certain game, just follow the " Posting Guidelines" and tell us the specifics.
Thank you, but that didn't help me.
The games still stops, it's like some one presses a pause button.
And like I said, the games worked perfect before.
I don't know how to explain the problem, it's like if you watch a movie and the tape stops,
Have you installed any Temperature monitoring programs on your computer? If so uninstall them.

Before? Before what? Before you installed XP to replace whatever OS you were using before? Before you changed your video drivers? That is info
that is critical to troubleshooting your problems.
If your DOS games were running "perfect" in XP, then you are the first to say so. A rare few will work properly in XP, almost all the others need help in one way or another.
Also, we need specific info as stated in the "Posting Guidelines".
If you don't know, fine. But obviously we need as much as possible.
You wouldn't call the Poison Hotline and say "I think I'm poisoned...What's the Antidote?" would you? You would give a description of what you ate or drank and when...etc
We need the OS (XP for yours), RAM, and processor speed at least. Most importantly we need a game name. Different games behave differently. There is no one-size-fits-all cure for DOS problems on an NT OS.
For some "quick and easy" titles to test, you might try the CHAMP games at http://www.champ-em.com/
They are small SoundBlaster/PC speaker only titles that seem very easy to run on XP. They work fine with sound; with or without VDMSound in XP. They will auto-configure themselves, so the only choice you need to make is between using the PC speaker or SoundBlaster for audio.
I don't know how to explain the problem, it's like if you watch a movie and the tape stops,...
That is commonly known as "locking up" or "freezing".
They worked good a couple of weeks ago.
Since then I have installed and uninstalled DX9 and some drivers and other. But I have changed back almost everything.
I have a pentium 4 1800MHz, 512 MB RAM, ASUS Geforce 4 Ti4200, Sound Blaster Live and the games are all dos games I have.
I tried those games but I got the same problem.
It loads up and then freezes.

Uh-oh. I think you are in trouble.

Did you read this note?
The DirectX 9.0 runtime cannot be uninstalled. We recommend Windows Me and Windows XP users create a "System Restore" point before installing.
If you didn't do that, you may be facing a re-install.
If so, I would recommend installing Win9x first, then install XP and allow it to create a dual-boot system for you.
Thanks allot for your help, but I got it to work.
I don't know what made the problem but I do now that it now is gone. 😀

So now, after running around in circles...you know what the problem is...but your're not going to tell us?
Sorry but I don't know what reason of the problem was. I just restorde the computer to an earlier date, and then the games worked again.

Then odds are that you had some kind of conflict between your drivers and DirectX 9. In any case, this thread is now closed.
