I installed DosBox because I assume it is an alternative to Windows XPs NTVDM. I'm currently running BRE on Synchronet and NTVDM is causing BRE to be a huge CPU hog.

When I tested BRE locally with DosBox I have to:
unzip bre988.zip
run: unpack
run: bre reset
run: srdoor local
run: bre

When I run BRE for the first time in DosBox I get a message that says:
"You need to run unpack.bat" before this game will work properly". But I ran unpack! What's even weirder is that if I run BRE a 2nd time right after I get that message, I get a black screen and the cursor changes to black on black. The only way to get the cursor back is to type: cls. Everytime I run BRE I notice "BRE" briefly showing in the DosBox title bar before it changes back to "DosBox" again.

Any help on how I can get BRE to work in DosBox is GREATLY appreciated.

I don't have a problem with it running the first time. The only problem I have with BRE is that it thinks it's the same day even five days after. Something with pulling the date time.
