Nice, good to hear! Do you have your L2 cache in WT or WB mode? If you want to use it in WB mode, make sure the dirty tag bit is working properly. So far I haven't had a motherboard with a SIS85C471 chipset where this has worked out of the box...

Nice, good to hear! Do you have your L2 cache in WT or WB mode? If you want to use it in WB mode, make sure the dirty tag bit is working properly. So far I haven't had a motherboard with a SIS85C471 chipset where this has worked out of the box...

The 486 computer is like an American funny Car dragsters.
You build it for optimal performance and push it to its limits.
You take a single cylinder engine and push it to its limits
It’s like a lawn mower engine.
This reminds of when I was a kid we use to build mini bike motor cycles and go carts
Out of lawn mover engines and race them on a dirt track and push them to the limits.
It was a lot of fun and we learn how to build them from scratch.

@Intel486dx33 - quite the fitting analogy.
My newly-find CxDX4-100 with green heatsink at SMT terminator with ALi chipset. Best memory timings of 0 waitstates and 2-1-1-1 cache timing.

There's a tool, Dukemark for MS-DOS, that evaluates system performance in Duke3D and displays the final results on the screen after the benchmark is complete.

It's great for testing 486 builds.
That would be useful. Duke Nukem 3D is far more interesting of a game for the period of hardware I prefer to test. My kids really enjoy Duke Nukem, but aren't into DOOM at all.

I decided to test this out since I have my socket 3 setup in the livingroom.
A Cyrix 5x86 (S1R3) running at 45.5*3, or 136.5 MHz, 1024K cache, MB-8433UUD.
ISA sound is enabled; game resolution at 640x480; detail high....
Bench1: 17 fps ave
Bench2: 20 fps ave
Bench3: 17 fps ave (max 36, min 9)
BTB, FP_FAST, LSSER, MEM_BYP, DTE_EN all set to optimal.
The game is perfectly playable on this system, but I've never been spoiled by high frame rates on any video game.
A database of benchmark results for this timedemo would be helpful. Obviously, I'd need to rebench with sound disabled.
