I'm searching for a good 486 motherboard for my project computer. I want to get a list of boards to look for so when I see an affordable one for sale, I can grab it. I will be using an Intel 486DX2 66MHz processor, and compatibility with other processors isn't important. Here is a list of what I need:
Baby AT form factor
PCI slots
PS/2 port support
CR2032 style battery
I don't care if it supports VLB or not. I've heard lots of conflicting stories about boards with both PCI and VLB support. Some people seem to say that ALL boards with both PCI and VLB have a crippled PCI bus, some seem to say it's based exclusively on the chipset, while others claim it depends on the manufacture. Regardless, PCI performance is important to me. Here is my expected setup (will be running exclusively MS-DOS 6.22):
Intel 486DX2 66MHz
8GB DOM, 4-2GB Partitions formatted FAT16
24X Slot-loading CD-Rom Drive
custom 3-button optical Logitech MouseMan
Hercules Stingray 64 PCI (ARK2000PV)
3Com 10/100 NIC (most likely PCI based)
SoundBlaster Pro 1.0
Roland LAPC-I
I'm not too picky about the memory the motherboard supports as I have hundreds of FPM modules, and a quite a bit of EDO as well. Thanks!
