haunting ground seem awesome, thank you sir ! But since this is a vintage board I guess some modern titles dont get the respect they deserve.

MobyGames has a list of games with dogs/wolves:

that list seem to be only 2005-2008 , but thanks for the headsup, you nearky destroyed my thread!
King's Quest III comes to mind. (The game isn't very friendly to cats, though.)
By the way, there is a Twitter account called @CanYouPetTheDog that catalogs and tweets out games that have dogs in them, and tells you for each game whether it allows you to pet them in-game.
ken's labyrinth
any putt-putt game
beethoven's 2nd
final fantasy VI
final fantasy VII
deus ex (of both pettable and non-pettable kinds)
rise of the triad
Rescue Rover 1 / 2 (or Dognapped! if you prefer Expert Software's "Froggman" defaced version)

It is a game for platform older than Pentium 4, which is considered vintage so I think it is OK 😉

The first game did have "For Pete's Sake" and there's of course that dog in "New Junk City"...
Shadow Dancer! Ninja with dog.
First Red Dead Redemption had dogs, too (they were used in night watch missions).
Medal of Honor and MOH:Allied Assault (latter had infinite respawning GSDs in a hidden map)
Tomb Raider 2, level 2 ( Venice). You get attacked by several dogs.
