Oh yeah I forgot about that, well now I have the ability to recompile mt32-pi from source and I like that feature I rolled it into the kernel image for myself too. It doesn't require custom ROMs either since the display routine is updated instead of the ROM files. I've attached it in case you are interested. But in your case you would need to revert to the unmodified ROMs so the checksum doesn't throw an error.

While at the CoD4 LAN, someone pointed out to me that I had a bulging capacitor.

He was right. I ended up replacing all five capacitors that were next to the VRMs with Panasonic EEU-FR1C152.

My next goal was to try and achieve a 4GHz overclock.

I performed a volt mod to the CPU. This volt mod is for 1.5v, however CPUZ reports it as 1.45v. I used copper tape rather than conductive paint.

Ignore the scratches. They are purely cosmetic.

I then installed my new Noctua NH-C14S CPU cooler. It has been fitted with two brand new Noctua NF-A14x25 G2 PWM SX2-PP 140mm fans for improved cooling and quieter operation. I used Thermal Grizzly's newly released Duronaut Pro thermal paste. I also installed the CPU's old Noctua 140mm fan to the front of the case. I wanted to cool the CPU to the best of my abilities, without using water. 1.5v is very high for this CPU.

As you can see, the CPU cooler barely fits with maybe 1-2cm clearance.

I wasn't able to achieve a stable 4GHz overclock. At 1.5v, Windows refused to boot. I tried 1.6v, and was able to complete a benchmark, but the system was not stable.

Is this the fastest benchmark for a machine with full ISA DMA support, ever? Not counting those that use LPC-ISA bridges, because I hear compatibility is rough.

1.6v is too high and the temps aren't reasonable. So I dropped it back down to 1.5v. The sweet spot ended up being 3.6GHz. It is 100% stable at 1.5v from my stress testing.

Here are the final benchmark results

With the side panel on, I get around 44c-50c idle (Depends if the air in the case is already warm) and around 62-63c under full load with Prime95.
With the side panel off, I get around 41-42c idle and around 59c-60c under full load with Prime95.
I was getting around 55c whilst playing GTA:SA with the side panel on, which is a more realistic scenario since the machine is only going to be used for gaming.

The overclocking is done. Now the underclocking begins.

If it's not already in the bios, it'll be fun figuring out how to set it.

If you want to OC, you might want to consider a case with more airflow. 60'C air will accumulate in the case with just one little exhaust fan. PSU fan is only for cooling the PSU itself.

Newer cases had much more airflow like ZALMAN Z9 Plus:

I will run an extended stress test, but I believe 62c-63c is the worst case scenario for the ambient temps I was in. And that was with Prime95 which is unrealistic, as no game will get near those those loads or temps. I'm okay with the current results. If it gets worse, I'd rather reduce the overclock than replace the case.

The case is actually really good for its time. Side panel vents and front bottom vents.

I got a chance to try this out and compare it to the X2GS. Unfortunately, the mt32-pi has much more bass and I couldn't make a good conclusion. Plus I have really poor hearing (Half deaf) so I'm probably the worst person on earth for comparing sounds.
