Thank you and with V5.62 BIOS-01 I feel SIV is as good as it can be. I plan to release Beta-01 in a few days and once I do please update to that.

The board was made by PiNON, named RT500 in the bios

OK, as I like to dot the i's and cross the t's I adjusted the attached SIV32X 5.61 Test-10 so it should report PiNON RT500, does it please?

From the Romance Daylight Time on the DEC Miata PWS433 I assumed you were in Europe, but felt it worth asking about Japanese as I assumed the XP Embedded could have the locale switched, can it?

Sorry for the delay in answering, I ran the 5.62 Beta-00 yesterday, it reports the brand and model fine.

Thank you for checking out the changes and posting new save files. All the adjustments I made worked as I hoped they would.

Another VIA MVP3 board tested today, with a Pentium 100Mhz. (reported as Pentium-S)

The "-S" on AWARD BIOSes indicates that the Pentium processor has power saving features. Eventually very late revisions of the AWARD BIOSes got rid of this, and was gone by the time of the Pentium II.

CPU is reported as unknown. [machine section]

Thank you for the report and save file. This motherboard is quite tricky as it does not have an SMBIOS so SIV has the scan the BIOS and try and work things out. All the information in [Machine] is from these deductions.

  1. I can't see Pentium-S being reported, how can I tell it's a Pentium-S please?
  2. The .DMI file is a dump of the BIOS and it does not contain -S at all.
  3. Unknown is the socket upgrade, I should have changed it to ZIF Socket in the attached SIV32L 5.62 BIOS-02, please may I have new save files.

On NT4 and earlier SIV32L 5.62 BIOS-02 also reports if DBGHELP.dll + PSAPI.dll are missing on [SIV Lookup]

The system had the Tahoma Font installed and looks the better for this.

Definitely it's reported as a "Pentium-S". 😀

I wonder how SIV could tell, do any Windows programs report it as Pentium-S and if so which?

I can see it is now, but it wasn't in the earlier screen shot.

Doesn't the -S just indicate some power saving feature?

That's what OMORES already said, but I don't know if it's possible for other than the BIOS to know this.

google tells me only award bios did this label for pentium cpu, and looking up op's cpu, which is visible in one of his photos, leads me to think it's nothing special, just a plain old pentium cpu.
