Okay, thanks.

One more question bout this PCMCIA card, does it play MIDI? Cause I’ve installed 2009 driver under XP and Creative utility says that I’ve got NONE midi device in system, and sound panel says that it will be MS synth.
Installed, older driver, from 2006 instead of 2009-10, and midi options appeared in sound control...

Hi, is valid for Audigy 2 (no ZS) ?

It should work.

I haven't tried that personally though, since I don't own a non-ZS Audigy card.

I confirm that it works on Audigy 2 (SB0240)

I have an Audigy2 ZS Note Book PCMCIA Model SB0530 ( I swear its a play on SB0350 by the Creative Lab):
I have managed to download the file form VOGON's library named:

SB_Audigy_ZS_Notebook_PCMCIA

I have a DELL Inspiron 7000 laptop that I have freshly installed Win98SE / WinME, and MS-DOS 7.1 (using Phil's method and menu) by utilizing System Commander 2000 multi-boot.

My DELL Inspiron 7000 has a built-in ESS Maestro-2 sound card which I have installed the Windows drivers successfully, but not under DOS.

Can I use my Audigy2 ZS Note Book under Win98/WinME? What about pure DOS (7.1)

Many thanks in advance!

This guide was made with desktop versions of the Audigy2 ZS cards in mind. I don't think it's applicable to the PCMCIA versions of that card, and I have certainly never tested it on one.

As for your question, I think you might be better off making a new thread about it, in order to get more exposure.

Have installed A2ZS drivers in the DOS 7.1 environment. P4P800 SE + P4 3.2E. The sound and music are ok.
There is 1 trouble -- audigy12.exe freezes if I disable hyperthreading in the BIOS. Any suggestions?

Radeon HD3850 Agp (Sapphire), Catalyst 14.4 (XpProSp3).
Voodoo2 12 MB SLI, Win2k drivers 1.02.00 (XpProSp3).

Jast left support of HT in the BIOS as is. DOS applications wouldn't use this in any way

While hardly any DOS application are multithreaded, Gamecollector's computer has Windows XP SP3 besides MS-DOS 7.1 as the sig mentions.

I've followed this and everything is working perfectly except loading the SC-55 soundfont. I get the error message "Load the soundfont file failed!". Any suggestions to get around this?

Also, is it possible to use the gameport for midi output in dos instead of the built-in GM? I have both an SC-7 and an RA-50 to use with it.

Does loading any other soundfont work for you? For example, can you try this SCC-1 soundfont from Vogonsdrivers? Normally, soundfonts should load fine as long as you have enough free RAM.

I haven't experimented with using an external MIDI device under pure DOS, so maybe someone else can chime in on that. But when playing DOS games from within Win9x, this should work if you go to Start > Settings > Control Panel > Multimedia > MIDI and set the output device to "MIDI Out".

In true DOS - no. For DOS apps running under Win98 - yes.
Same case with Line-In, in true DOS it's disabled and I couldn't find a working DOS mixer app for Audigy2.
Combined, these constrains are making it not a good option for use with ext MIDI, unless you stick with Windows.

Interesting. I can get the SCC-1 soundfont and also tried HL4MGM successfully. However, I tried various others and none would load. Even the 10Mb SC-55.SoundFont.v1.2b failed. If I reduce the memory to smaller than the file I get a different error. I also tried setting to static rather than dynamic memory but that crashed the soundfont manager.

The only thing that comes to mind is that you may have too much RAM i.e. more than 512 MB. Win98 doesn't work right above that amount. Or possibly a faulty memory stick. Maybe do a couple of passes with MemTest86+ and see what turns up.

If all else fails, try a clean install of Win98SE. Sometimes, old drivers leave behind files which can mess things up.

Thanks for the excellent guide. I wanted to confirm that this guide also works for Windows ME.

The only issue I had was Step 4.3 (Run C:\AU2\AUDIGY DOS DRIVER\Setup.exe and restart when prompted)
The installer complained that Windows 95 or 98 was required. If you rename or delete the checkOS.exe file it will let you continue and install.

After completing the installation I have digital audio, FM and MIDI emulation in DOS games run from within Windows. While the WDM drivers did work under Windows ME they popped loudly at the end of every digital sample. FM emulation didn't seem to work either.

Speaking of Windows ME, I used this update compilation CD: https://archive.org/details/wmeupd-r2
I heartily endorse this CD for anyone that wants to use Windows ME on a retro rig.
It includes pretty much every of official and unofficial update for Windows ME that you would ever need and wraps it in an automated installer. Most critical for me was the 512MB patch which is an optional update included in the root of the CD and not part of the automated installation process.

If you are squeamish, don't prod the beach rubble.

Nice find!

I never tested this on WinME so it's good to see that you were able to get it working.

I've tried following this guide but for Windows ME. It got as far as installing the VxD drivers and enabling the legacy sb16 emulation in device manager with the registry key, but I cannot install the dos drivers.

When I run the dos driver setup it gives me an error:

"SB16 Emulation can only be run on Windows 95 or Windows 98 with VXD Drivers installed."

My guess is that it is checking for Windows 95 or 98 and failing.

Is there any way to trick the install into proceeding?
