This topic is about wfb format soundfonts for old Turtle Beach cards (Maui, Tropez) but it must start with Gravis Ultrasound
Recently i found a nice site with some nice soundfonts :
OLD SOUNDCARDS EMULATION
http://www3.telus.net/anapan8/oldscardemu.htm

The most interesting thing there is that there are 2 soundfonts which are converted from gravis ultrasound pat files to sf2 format
One of them is soundfont i already found some time ago :
GUS Classic Patch Set v1.6b converted by ArekR - www.rarek.ceron.pl
author site
http://www.rarek.ceron.pl/
but the second one Gravis Ultrasound.sf2 - Generated by PAT2DLS using Gravis Ultrasound patches (author unknown)
was a nice surprise
I got some Turtle Beach cards especially Turtle Beach Maui and Tropez which use soundfonts in their special TB format .wfb.
I was trying to find more Turtle Beach soundfonts but with no special luck . Using the internet wayback machine i found some old sites which has some patches for Maui or Tropez card but all these almost all links are dead
http://web.archive.org/web/19990429121629/htt … ar/patch_e.html

http://web.archive.org/web/19990508193502/htt … ches/Index.html

http://web.archive.org/web/19990218163601/htt … beach/Links.htm

i only found some patches for Wave Patch program but no complete banks
I also found program WEMP Wavefront Extended Media Player which allows Maui (maybe Tropez and Pinnacle too ??? )play .mods and xm files in dos - and it works !!!

b7d73ff73acf5cfe1f105c80c6e149f49463.jpg
but i was only able to find this program in older version and there was some information there about some newer version - anyone got it maybe ???

0.96 version here
http://www.mediafire.com/?s5bc0u1289c3e09

Going back to soundfonts i found information about some bigger soundfont for Maui which was made and sold by Turtle Beach about 4MB - but was unable to find it - maybe anyone from Vogons got it in his collection???

Using the Wave Patch program for maui was trying to make some new soundfont for this card using instruments extracted from some other more advanced soundbanks but for now my knowledge about the midi standard and the wfb bank standards seems to be to small to make it rigth but i will keep on trying
What i manage to do is a conversion (dont ask me how ) one of the Ultrasond banks to wfb format
I uploaded this file here:

Generated by PAT2DLS using Gravis Ultrasound patches_converted_to.wfb

http://www.mediafire.com/?x6fxd78hc4s8dqc

it has obout 6,5 MB and it sound great on many of my arcade classic midi files not so well on modern midi files

My main question is does anyone from this site has any Turtle Beach sound banks especially this 4mb bank from turtle beach !!!! and can upload it on some download server

Sorry about the necroposting but since this guy owns arguably the best site about retro sound-cards I had to cooperate.

As you know old TB sound cards have the samples on ROM, Rio and Tropez+ indeed have a 4Mb uncompressed sample-set and there's a gm_2001.wfb and a gm_rio.wfb they only contain the "default setting" for the wave-front synth.

I have two CD-ROMs full of patches and banks specially made for Turtle Beach's wave-front synthesizers. (Rio, Tropez, Tropez+ & Maui).
Let me know if you would like to have them.

I would be pretty interested in this too as I have a Tropez+ I'm dying to try out.

I just have the RIO daughterboard. I don't have the patience to upload more then a few waveforms to it. Transferring it with sysex is horribly slow.
When I was looking for compatible soundbanks a few years ago, there was not much on the net. Support was both obscure and fading away. So I guess vmunix is one of the few with these files for the Wavefront.

Rio is exceptionally slow as it transfer the binary .wav file through the midi bus, for Rio to speed things up there are special folders in the CDs more appropriate (smaller although high quality) wavs. The rest of the wavefront synths can upload a few megabytes wav in a few seconds, so no problem at all.

The CD's are being uploaded at the moment to a dropbox.

TB1 has mostly .wav files prepared to be used in wavefront synthesizers (loop points, etc) to view, edit and upload to the synth with Wave SE is the perfect tool. There are also some banks .WBF as well as .WSS (without wavs embedded) the wav files are loaded directly form the specified location
The tool to edit the synth parameters after the sample has been uploaded Wavepatch is included in TB1 but I will update a new version later with the rest of the important applications.
There's a save_ram directory which is perfect for Rio doughterboard

TB2 has mostly sound banks (.WBF) and also .wav files.

latest wavepatch can be downloaded still from here.
http://www.turtlebeach.com/support/download/679/

Beware, Wavepatch aswell as the Wavefront synthesizers are serious stuff for music production (and play xwing 🤣), other much more popular brands have never ever come close.

Thats some serious staff !!! - Vmunix many thanks for your work - I almost lost my hope i ever gonna lay ma hands on some better Maui sounds.

I knew it exsisted somwhere , the moment i bought Turtle Beach Maui- from one of this forum members (i already got Turtle Beach Tropez and Pinnacle at that time ) i started looking for some other soundfonts for Maui. There is very little information about it , all I found then it was a lot of links from wayback machine leadning to nowhere but I also found some information about commercial soundfonts and cd-roms made for Maui so i knew that someone must have and use it in the past.
There is a program - Awave Studio from FMJ-Software http://www.fmjsoft.com/awavestudio.html
which can extract , convert and create soundbanks and sound patches for Maui and Tropez

description from site
(is a multi-purpose audio tool that reads a veritable host of audio carrying file formats from different platforms, synthesizers, trackers, mobile phones… you name it! — It can be used in a variety of ways: As an audio file format converter, an audio editor, a multi-format sound player, and last but not least, as a generic synthesizer instrument editor. It is the swiss army knife for anyone working with digital audio or synthesizers! )

Now its time to get my Maui out from a dusty box and plug it into my retro machine ! 😀

What about the Vsynth driver? Is that related?

Vsynth driver is probably a software midi device (Turtle Beach Monte Carlo has it , Turtle Beach Malibu also has similar solusion ) with soundbanks in bnk format loaded into ram

kemot001 forget about awavestudio, it's nothing compared to Wavepatch which is specifically designed to control every bit of the Wavefront synth.
Also remember Turtle Beach mainly produced samplers, so the concept of soundfonts it's a little bit off here, Tropez+ and the rest are similar in functionality to a E-mu Emulator (watch Alan Wilder on yt) they are meant for you to record a sound whatever you fancy and then upload it and use the sound as a new instrument, it also requires some work from your part, that's why I'm supplying the tools this time.

WaveSE and Wavepatch are your friends, WaveSe can record, edit, set loop points and upload a wav. You can also save it and upload and edit synthesizer wise with Wavepatch.

Forget about Creative, Roland or other synths, this is a completely different animal.

Thank you very much for taking the time to upload those files. Your efforts are greatly appreciated. Hopefully more people will see the value in the Tropez cards now that the soundfont technology can be used to the full potential.

I've been looking for these files for years, so it's great to finally have them!

Thank you very much for the information and stuff about the Wavefornt Synths.
Maybe someone is in mood to build a General Midi compatible soundfont (there are no GM-soundfonts on the provided archives) with these tools. That would be great for the gamers among us. But I have little hope that this will ever happen 🤣

Regards
Fabian

No, TB2 doesn't contain WBF soundbanks, just WAV files and WFP files there.

When i realised (years ago ) that the hunt for better Maui soundfont - complete gm soundset (there was an information on some russian site that better soundfont was made and sold ) ) is hopeless i made an attempt to make (or just convert) using turtle beach software my own soundfont and i failed due to lack of knowledge patience and time .
Maybe this soundfont is a myth ????
On Maui faq there is information about other company which made 3 cd of samples for Maui :

https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/comp. … isc/hLcX1a9LUjY

7b iMedia CD-ROMs

iMedia has two (soon to be three) CD-ROMs containing samples for
Turtle Beach SampleStore capable cards called The Leading Edge and The
Composer's Toolkit.
Reviews and further information about these CD-ROMs are on the
Unofficial Maui FTP Directory (see Further Information section)

That's right Fabian, these cards were meant (mostly) for music composition, so you create your own non gmidi compatible sound-font for a given song, although with 12mb fs ram is perfectly possible to convert to WFB any gmidi bank using Awave.

I can ask my local retailer who used to sell these cards if by chance he still own a copy, or backup , of those CD-Rom, the ones I've got were purchased from them (in 1995).

Tropez+ & Rio have an extra button for real time effects processor Yamaha YSS-225 which are controlled manually or via sysex.
ay4g.jpg

WaveSE with loop editor, notice the icon which lets you directly send the wav to the synth ram while you are testing the loop points, I haven't seen anything like that since.

Wavepatch, is to tweak every bit and every key.

I found a bit of time and played around with it, it's such a wonderful card and software. I realize that also the default 4MB sound font is very high in terms of sample quality. and also well balanced. Love my Tropez+ and my RIO.

Cheers,
Fab

Sure there are, I have to check the CD-rom that came with my card, I haven't used them though so I have no isea about the quality, but being a card that can store 64mb of samples I assume they are good.
