It was dark in the city for three days. A curtain of dust covered the sky. The sun was barely breaking through. It's dangerous to open the window...

A sand storm? Is it typical for your area or it's for the first time?

no, this is the first time in 150 years of meteorological observations:
"A powerful dust storm has formed in Tashkent, it may turn out to be the record for air pollution among dust storms in the world, said Thomas Gill, a scientist from the University of Texas at El Paso, an atmospheric specialist.
Air pollution in Tashkent with particulate matter during a dust storm rose to 18,000 micrograms per cubic meter. At times, the dust concentration was 30 times the safe level
According to Thomas Gill, in the dustiest city in the United States, El Paso, he met the highest hourly concentrations - about 5,000 micrograms per cubic meter.
Thus, these levels in Uzbekistan are about four times worse than I have ever seen in El Paso. This may be one of the highest dust pollution values ever measured for ambient air in urban areas, " the scientist said.
This is well visible especially from satellites.
Rarely it is spoken in the West what kinds of dust settle in this region of the world.
It has many properties, for example it is magnetic.
Or combinations of salt, fertilizers and pesticides being widely distributed by dust storms.
So this is no longer the traditional silicate mix people in the region are accustomed to.
The remaining parts of the Aral Sea are highly saline, very toxic.
But the recent developments are not what media likes to talk about.
Much, but not all of it is remnant of the former Soviet Union.
We apparently need to do this all for "protecting the environment", electric cars and all that. Sadly the video embedded in the article has been removed, it apparently was way too disgusting.
Well, yes, enjoy the newest smartphone fad, the electric pickup, the autonomous lawn mowers, vacuumers and all these essential necessities.
Oh, but the fake tree huggers think all this "green" technology will save the environment... When in reality, it is just making them feel good about themselves while transferring the energy production somewhere else... as well as the production of toxic waste.

Population reduction coupled with low energy use per capita is the best solution, another would be nuclear baseload
no one likes to hear that though
Nothing like a well tuned 2 stroke chain saw to remove that pesky protected native tree in the back yard.
There's a glitch in the matrix.

Apparently 32-bit is dead and nobody likes P4s.
Of course, as always, I'm open to correction...😉

That's the problem, expressed succinctly and correctly, and what 99.9% of modern, hipster "green" people do not understand. In 1970 (1st Earth Day) it wasn't so much a "feel good" ideology, but today it is because of the soft and convenience-laden society we live in, even compared to 50 years ago. The next time I hear that Tesla is "saving the world" in green technology, I'm going to vomit. They're greatly contributing to the problem. Increased production = increased consumption = bad. Decreased production = better for environment. As well as the evil Z word: ZPG.
