Those two motherboards... Not really vintage, but from era I almost entirely skipped (I had nForce 4 motherboard for a short while, but it wasn't Socket 754, rather 939 - ASUS A8N-E) and I couldn't pass an offer I got from my local electro trash supplier (I got them almost for free because of unknown condition).

Both seem to work correctly, missing I/O shields though, came with original coolers and some Infineon DDR memory modules though.

Mine has a bad case of yellowing needing a retrobrite cure (thanks to all the nice chaps that made YT tutorials).
😀

Could you post a pic of yours? I' like to see one in good shape.

Here's my case:

6sF7JjIl.jpeg

It houses my 3/486 build (Jetway OPTI495DX 3/486WB, Promise EIDE/Dual FDD cache VLB, ET4000/w32p VLB, ISA I/O, HardMPU, Aztech Sound Galaxy NX Pro non-16, 8GB CF (CF to IDE 3.5" bracket), Mitsubishi 360K drive (drive D), Epson SD-800 (drive A is the 3.5", drive B is the 5.25"), Panasonic CR-563-B (connected to the sound card), SAAYM (CMS/GameBlaster clone + YM-YM-2151), 3Com 3C515TX ISA, 386DX-33, 387-33, and 8MB RAM).

Had a 386DX/486DLC build before and it was only $10 back in 2020.

Has slight yellowing on the right, however, it's not that bad.

All 3 fdds work?

Oh, yes. I have a Promise DC-4030VL-2 that can take up to 4 FDDs and 4 HDDs (or 2 HDDs and 2 ODDs) and I have the LBA BIOS installed on the card (upgraded from the original one).

Got this over the weekend - I paid a pretty penny - 5 of the 6 mice did not work, and I can't get the two green 486 boards to post.

The Conner 42 Mb drive is dead - had to smack it for it to even spin, it was a $5 gamble, turns out I should have bought a couple beers instead 😜

55VQVaq.jpg

Replacement mice are coming, which is nice, as I have 9 systems in my basement, most of them will need a mouse to be complete.

That's the thing with loot crates, couple of premium items and a lotta junk 🤣

Though mechanical mice tend to have an issue with IR LED burnout as they age, if they're discrete LEDs they can be replaced. If not and they're those modules, maybe find one with blown X or Y and the other still good and swap it into another mouse with one failed.

Unicorn herding operations are proceeding, but all the totes of hens teeth and barrels of rocking horse poop give them plenty of hiding spots.

Pretty sure most can be brought back to life.
Just don't throw it away, landfills aren't great at repairing stuff 😀

I bought another FM801 PCI sound card because I just love this criminally underappreciated chipset.

Eh, it's nice to see Epox again after years - this is exactly what I had with Sempron 2800+ and somewhere I still have the memory settings written down to handle FSB higher than 300 MHz. Because of the loud fan on the hot nForce4, I bought Thermaltake heatpipe passive cooler, but otherwise Epox won me over (even with the acclaimed Thunder Probe utility) so much that this board was followed by others from Epox (until Epox ended badly - btw, is Supox still alive?)

The board on the top right is from Biostar if I'm not mistaken. Would you be able to dump the BIOS of that one?

#metoo! 2 or 3 actually...

Still I need PR200 which is even more rare.

PS: I may have surplus PR133s if you need one. I can check.

Sure, PM me to remind me - I'll be making a system out of it post-exams (Dec 13?)

🤣 the guy I bought it from is sending new ones. If I paid $5 for each mouse, I would attempt to repair them - one button doesn't work, two have bad tracking (and one ball trap is epoxied shut, wtf) and one plain doesn't work. For the price I paid for these, I'm not wasting time trying to resuscitate them. One of the BUS mice squeaks heavily and has jagged input - I tried oiling it, but it didn't help.

These items were hand selected - I need these specific items to complete about 10 systems, so the lack of working mice grinds my output to a halt. I mean, I've got exams coming up, so not like I'm gonna have time to fiddle with it, and by that time, I should have the parts in.

On a welcome surprise, one of the computers (A 486SLC) had a Mach64 ISA in there. I had no idea those existed, and I have been looking for a Mach32 for years now. That card came out of that PC right quick and got replaced with a Trident 8900D 🤣.

Schools and libraries would glue the hatches shut because ppl kept stealing mouse balls. I get that you want proper value for your money especially if they were all promised to be working perfectly, but you should probably not consider it a waste of time to investigate and learn to cure the problems as most are frequent maintenance items for ball mice. But right, exams first.

This made me chuckle. Make a good coffee table book. School computer lab stories. The crap that went on in my college computer lab back in the 1990s is enough for a couple of pages alone.

Like when someone figured out how to send a message to the LAN's broadcast address. (And OS weren't default configured to ignore them)

Or the guy who thought hiding his personal files 40 folders deep all named alt code 0160 a bunch of times would trick us. Unfortunately, he did this with a group of us sitting behind him. The next day his files were still there, but with a Windows background image with the message, "We know where your files are!".

Edit: Memory is fuzzy after all these years. 0160 instead of 32.

I remember making folders in win9x dos mode using ALT+255. Windows 9x couldn't handle it in the GUI, but had no problems in CLI. Teachers shit bricks when they tried to open the "test answers" folder that had nothing in it.

The entire school district admins knew who I was and was seriously tired of my shit.

If it wasn't for hardware upgrades (and personnel upgrades) , I'd be absolutely sure there is still a cracked copy of StarCraft Broodwar floating about the district server pool. ^.^

It is a mistake to think you can solve any major problems just with potatoes.

This set of 2 Forte VFX1 headsets... One seems to be in perfect condition, and one is just a husk which I can use for parts, try to repair it or use it for some project (I already think about using it as an enclosure for some DIY modern hmd). I already had working VFX1 (missing some accesories though) but I couldn't pass on purchasing this set...

Just bought a GPU lot with

9 Matrox G450 Dualhead 16Mb GPUs
1 Geforce FX5200 AGP
1 ATI 128 Rage Pro AGP
1 ATI 3d Rage Pro Turbo AGP
1 Matrox G45 AGP

They all appear to be working, so now I just have to figure out what to do with 8 Dualhead G450s
