Yes I have tried that, but if you look a little further down, the one who started it didn't reply to the thread again. Thus not confirming if the given sollution actually works or not. Just to be sure let me say this:

MUGEN does work on XP or whatever, it just lies oin the configuration you have given it in mugen.cfg

The thing is, the sound isnt that clear and will not play midi files.
With VDMsound I tried to solve that and that's were this bug came up.

For the actual program issues we kind of have to redirect you to "experts" at places like http://www.mugenguild.cjb.net/ because troubleshooting MUGEN requires in-depth knowledge of the program and it has a huge number of variables. I don't think anyone here knows it well enough to cover more than the basics.

You'll find that getting DOS audio to run under XP is always a pain as the OS allows no direct access to your soundcard. You could always trying XP's native emulation (uses IRQ 5), but that is actually quite inferior to Vlad's emulation tool and will probably give you worse results.

Remember that the program you are trying to run was never meant to be run on an NT OS (Needs DOS->No DOS in NT). If you're truly determined to run it the way it was meant to be run, you may have to set up a dual-boot or use another set of hardware to run it.

First, make sure that you have "Update 1" for VDMSound installed from http://vdmsound.sourceforge.net/files/VDMSoun … 0.4.update1.zip (unzip into VDMSound inst. directory and overwrite when prompted). Then use the "Run with VDMS" that does not have an icon next to it **OR** in LaunchPad, under "Advanced Properties", under "Troubleshooting", under "Custom Configuration" type/paste:

fixPOPF = 1

Does that fix the problem?

First of all, MUGENguild isn't the expert in mugen. If there are experts in the mugen scene, then it's MUGENDev. at programming and Elecbyte at the programming of the game. Mugenguild can mostlikely be referred to as a mugennews page.

I placed "experts" in quotes because, compared to me, they are. I was using the term relatively.

At the risk of being a wet blanket, I was never able to squeeze quality sound out of MUGEN under XP. Operation in general seems rather poor. Looks like a dual-boot candidate to me.

Thanks so much vladr for that update posting that you put up. It didn't quite work like you said it would (had to run the vdms link with the icon as I still got the sigsegv error with the other one and that fixpopf line caused additional problems), but the fact is that my vdms works now, on mugen nonetheless.

And yes quality sound is what I'm trying to get here. I've heard from a few people that they've been able to run VDM on MUGEN, but not IF they've got any good sound or not.

Ok, my apologies for being vague, I just meant that I stopped getting that annoying sigsegv error when I tried to run VDMsound with lanchpads default config; and that now I can run Mugen with vdmsound just fine. I get good sound and everything, which with my soundcard is pretty astonishing indeed.

Hmmm... I'm using VD to run mugen and it's souding great... the only probelm is that the controls are very choppy.... like if I press back the character will keep moving back for a while after I let go

Help! mugen runs great with vdm sound with the update and the other prog but after a couple of fights it throws me out of the game with the state already mentioned at the first post! what could be wrong?

The DOS version was never beyond the BETA, it's a technical nightmare to run on any NT OS due to extremely large number of variable settings in addition to the VESA issues introduced by NT. If you go to the MUGEN home page, you'll see that they don't even have the DOS version for download and the only reference to it is in the FAQ, no download.

If you do find the download (elsewhere, obviously), when you run it you'll see that they ask you not to use this beta past November of 2001.

If it means a lot to you, you should seriously consider a dual-boot configuration for your PC. This is far easier to do with DOS or Win9x, but setting up Linux on a separate drive will give you proper support and features that are not in the DOS Beta.

The best solution is to download and use Linux, which is free (like MUGEN). Unfortunately, XP doesn't play nice with Linux, so you would probably need a Tool like BootMagic.

hey everybody , i got some good news,

am running MUGEN under winXP,

am using vdmsounds2.04, and the launch pad 1.0.0.7,

after you install the launch pad , make sure that the mugen folder is in this pad

C:/MUGEN

better say in your local hard drive, then run mugen with vdmsound , the 1 with icon,
and make sure of this setting;
