That patch is a thing for Windows 95 OSR2. The first edition ("A") can be installed normal on a 4ghz CPU, you just need to edit system.ini to limit the RAM amount and you'll get straight to the desktop without any hitches. (at least on my configuration)

Initially, the video card is recognized as a "standard device" but you can't install drivers, you need to install PCI bus, delete the old registry entries for the video card and that's it... On my computer, Windows 95 is fully functional: with sound, video, LAN, and BIOS access to SATA drives. (any FAT16 partition within first 8.4GB is available, including those on NVME)

The motherboard is a X470 GTA from Biostar with 2 PCI slots and, 2 PCI-E 16X, and 2 PCI-E 1x. (also compatible with Ryzen 5000 series)
*PCI slot 1-> Primary video card Voodoo 3 3000 PCI -> working drivers for Windows 3.1, NT 3.51/4, Win 95, 98, ME, 2000 etc.
*PCI slot 2 -> Ensoniq ES1370 (original) -> works great in Windows 3.1, including MIDI. This is the only PCI card that worked on Windows 3.11 behind a PCI-E to PCI bridge. Also works in 95, NT4, 98SE, ME, 2000/XP. Maybe also in Vista/7/10 32 bit editions.
*1 PCI-E 16X with my main video card - constantly changes
*1 PCI-E 16x to PCI adapter with VIA 6421 for SATA/ATA - Good drivers for 98/NT4/2000/XP, but I'm using it mainly for Windows 3.11 enhanced mode.
*1 PCI-E 1x with a VIA 6212 USB (this card has its own PCI-E to PCI chip) -100% compatible with every OS with USB support
*1 PCI-E 1x with a gigabit card with Broadcom 57xx or Intel chip. Intel gigabit cards work fine under Windows 3.11. DOS NDIS driver can be used in 3.11, 95/98/98SE. -> I think I'll use in this slot a PCI-E to PCI adapter fitted with a Realtek 8139 - this 10/100 card has drivers for every Windows including Windows 3.x. (This my main all in one system, I still want a functional gigabit card, luckily... I can use the on board gigabit card)

That's kinda low. My AthlonXP system gets 98.7 FPS in Quake 1 software mode at 640x480 with all settings maxed out.

I am using FASTVID though, not sure if that's applicable to modern systems.

Why not a subsection about 20th century Windows ? Windows 3x, 9x, NT 3/4 and 2k.

I always like having something to brag about like MCE taskbar skin on millennium desktop or 98SE with SATA, gigs of ram etc.
Lately I have been playing with systems with AGP and PCI gpu's
There are things DOS windows vs NT windows can or can't do. So it wouldn't just be windows 7. VISTA was almost the same as 7 when it was mature and some regressions in 7 made it just as much a pain in the ass as vista especially with some hardwares.
I had more fun sticking to xp than running vista or 7 and enjoyed xp x64 well after support finished.
I might post a pic of my xp x64 desktops unsigned ferrari theme.
Need more support for texture acceleration with PCIE gpu's on 9x systems.

Currently, I have Windows 95 OSR2.5 running on:

Pentium 4, 3GHZ with 2GB of RAM
PCI sound card (ES1989S chip)
Intel 865G video

FIX95CPU and PATCHMEM patches were applied (https://archive.org/search.php?query=creator% … olph+R.+Loew%22). After which, I removed the Plug-and-Play BIOS system device to get rid of the "Windows Protection Error".

But the problem is, I can't install any driver. No sound, video is at 640x480 only. New hardware isn't detected. I'm guessing it has something to do with the removal of the Plug-and-Play BIOS system device. Any ideas on how to solve this?

If everything looks clean in Device Manager (see the screen shot attached), with no unknown/other devices then you have to install manually the PCI bus.

This operation may take a while, do not restart when asked and continue to install all devices. For system devices like "PCI to PCI bridge" go with default Windows drivers. For specific hardware like a network card you can provide the actual drivers.

The video card was recognized before adding the PCI bus as a system device, and now will show up again... this is a problem, because Windows will stick with the original registry entry for the video card. The newly discovered video card will have an exclamation mark. You have to delete the initial Standard PCI Graphics adapter from control panel (or registry) and then some magic will happen: drivers will work...
