I’m trying to install a PCI IDE controller on my MB-1433UHT-A, as it does not have an onboard one. I’m using a Promise Ultra 100 but when the card is installed the system hangs during the POST procedure, after completing the memory check. I see the last code on the diagnostic card is 53 (Award 4.50G BIOS)

Things I’ve tried so far, with the same result:
- moving the card to different slots
- move video card to ISA so it the controller card is the only one on PCI
- swap for a FastTrak 66
- swap for a 2940UW
- swap out the RAM

Once the card is removed the system is able to complete POST. Also no issue with a VLB controller card.

Any thoughts what might help get past this issue?

I'm guessing your board is not capable of supporting PCI 2.1 and/or bus mastering based on failure of operation of the 2940UW and Promise 66/100 controllers. The 2940UW requires bus mastering and PCI 2.1. The Promise controllers might be the same.

Hmm, thanks for the feedback. There are options in the power management section labeled “PCI Master(1-4) Check” so was under the impression that there was some degree of support, but maybe that option means something else.
