Snagged this keyboard tray at Savers for $6. They also had a CPU "tower" stand with a PS/2 model 30 on the front of the box I passed up for $4.99. Also got a 387SX coming in from France for the Compaq.

TrashPanda wrote on 2022-02-20, 09:24:

Keyboard tray looks nice but seems like it might be rather uncomfortable to actually use the keyboard with it there.

RaiderOfLostVoodoo wrote on 2022-02-20, 12:28:

Yeah, the parents of a friend used to have something like that.
Really uncomfortable.

They are situation-ally useful... my Fellowes unit is sitting boxed up because I don't have such a situation at the moment. Two moves ago I had another one, which is unaccounted for... but was useful when I had a narrow table beside the bed with a machine on, and keyboard could "reach out" toward me on/in it. You don't have to have them too high, maybe this isn't creepingnet's first rodeo because we see the desk surface beside this machine is a little higher.

Possibly mine might get deployed for a "just a pile of machines" workstation, sitting on like 4 desktops, or 2 midis with a desktop on top, or two full towers, plonk keeb tray on it, monitor on keeb tray, KVM and monitor on it.

Did they make this card in two different memory sizes? I see all the cards in ebay have only half of the mem spots populated on the right side of the 3dfx chips.

yeah, there's a 6MB and an 8MB version

The one I found is beige on the outside and the drawer is a dark gray. Yours looks to be the opposite? 😀

Nice, pretty close to peak socket A. Is it getting a badass GPU?

GF7800GS, methinks. Or maybe a Radeon HD3450. Will have to try them both.

(edit) Wait, no, it's a 3850 not a 3450. Even better. 😀

Always wanted a pizza box, now I have a pizza box.

Plate says 486-33, inside is a VLB board with an ISA riser and an AMD DX-40, because, whatever?

Doesn't boot so far, but nobody is perfect.

The Sempron 2600 will make a good board tester. 🤣

Nah, it's a good haul, got the early '00s very well covered there.

that socket 754 Sempron 2600+ will be the component of my future ASUS K8V-VM budget 2006-2007 build.
That M2N-E will be a historical 2006-2007 build on AM2 platform in future.
ECS K7VZA i bought it to temporary replace my dead GIGABYTE GA-7DXE until I recap it.

Any opinions about ASUS A7V880 and ASUS A7V400-MX?

Nope, 100% beige and like new. Also works well on my setup as its comfy enough to shoot videos with.

Matrox MGA Impression Lite VLB:

Hope that's the right model as it is quite right to find out details about early Matrox cards.

I believe your ATI card is in fact "Graphics Ultra +" as there are FPM DRAM chips as opposed to dual-ported VRAM on the Pro model. I do have the Pro model somewhere with 16 x ZIP28 chips.

solid enough performers with the early mid 2000's stuff there, these single core sempron's are sometimes neglected for being out of step with the advent of the dual core era and all the exciting 775 stuff but i think they're still good 😀

Fair use/fair dealing exception

One of my buddies had a Savage card back in the day, when I was using a TNT2. Of course, my card was better in most games, but not in Unreal Tournament '99. And that was by far the most popular game among my friends at the time. I vividly remember being blown away with how good S3 Metal rendering looked, and by the performance that the Savage card delivered while running UT in that mode. After all these years, I'm looking forward to trying this out for myself.
