Someone had some interest and I decided to post some pics.

I put it in a machine and it was picked up, but I have no compatible cable to test if the output is there and it actually works.
If anyone needs a better pic to troubleshoot/repair send a PM.

Mini-DIN for composite output maybe? BTW it should be possible to create a simple resistor-based DAC to make it somewhat VGA-compatible. I did something llike that for CGA, except I used FPGA devkit that had VGA output with resistor DAC, and I also implemented correct brown color while at it, and manual V/H polarity switching, but otherwise it was pass-through. If that still doesn't work, put OSSC between that "VGA" and monitor to bring it up to correct frequencies. And while it seems like a lot of work, I had those on hand but no CGA/EGA monitor. At least I know my card works.

Learning finnish sounds less bleak. 😀
Ok, I'm not touching this board before I'll be able to understand this 100%.

Nice card! Invest 6€ in a logic analyzer to see the picture 😉

For the price, it's great. But otherwise it has rather bad sampling jitter - I guess clock rate is matched to 640 pixels so it looks OK-ish in games but terrible in text mode. And then even in graphics mode there seems to be issues with detecting edge of the picture when the entire screen is moving sideways...

Yes, it has some erros in text mode with 640 pixels buts its readable.

In graphics mode 320x200 its 100% accurate and playable. The scrolling artifacts you noticed are related to Commander Keen and are well known.

But you need a fast PC.

Whatever, there is no cheaper way to get a EGA picture on your screen.

I love you people!
I mean it 😀

I used this 286 for a lot of games and tons of memories of many games I played are popping up.
Transparent like those cheap SBs 😀

Hi @nexxen - apologies for the necro-post, but I was wondering if you got this EGA card working? I am curious if you were able to find out anymore about it.

By dumb luck I stumbled upon a Compaq EGA monitor. I already have restored an original 1986 Deskpro 386/16. It seems those were offered with EGA as an option. I am trying to figure out what the "correct" original EGA card would have been in that model. Would it have been the Enhanced Color Graphics II?

Maybe refer to the QRG for your system - https://web.archive.org/web/19961225160549/ht … e1/desktop.html

or

the card settings page - https://web.archive.org/web/19961226055120/ht … 2/appavide.html

Hi! No problem, it's sometimes better to re-animate an old post 😀

No, I didn't. I just asked a friend to test it and it is still @ his place, IIRC. He couldn't remember either if he tested it. I guess that age isn't a good factor at some point - 🤣
It was indeed seen by a board I put it in.
Mine was in a 286, if you have a 386 maybe a later version or a different card completely. I'm not an expert on the subject.

I'm glad you have a restored 386, have lots of fun with it!!

Hi Moravec, somehow I just got back on this and found your post. Thank you for uploading such a clear picture!
