Tried briefly over the weekend to get this audio card to produce sound in an XT clone.
Install procedure works if the card is present. Verified that it fails if no card is plugged in.
So hardware is detected properly.
ESSVOL and ESSCFG recognize the card as well.
Tried different ESSCFG settings. The most important being DMA. It cannot be 1, etc.
SET BLASTER is in place and matches the ESSCFG settings.
At boot time everything goes well.
Few games indicate there is a SoundBlaster.
For example, Wolf3D (the 8086 port) shows it as an option.
But no sound is ever produced.
Made sure it is not a sound volume issue.

Wonder if the PnP setup is XT compatible.
There is not much information online other than some vague messages about 8086 instructions in the PnP initialization code.
I am using 8086 processor.

Any links with hard info, or ideas ?
Thanks.

Turns out both sounds cards kicked the bell since the last time I used them.
Put a good old ct1750 in - instasounds.
Tried with another pnp card - everything works, including DMA1 which is sometimes problem on some XT mobos (or so people say).

So, nothing to see here other than two more old hardware items gone.

Here's your one free excuse ticket to upgrade to a V30, see if that makes a difference 🤣

Unicorn herding operations are proceeding, but all the totes of hens teeth and barrels of rocking horse poop give them plenty of hiding spots.

Thanks @Pickle.
The two cards i have on the bench at the moment don't have eeproms.
But i know what you mean - happened on other hardware.

@BitWrangler
That is already the case.
Posted about it in a another thread.
