Is there any way to draw FPS overlay over DOS games, just like you can with fraps 1.9 over Windows 98 games?

See Scali’s post at the end of this thread:

Is there something like fraps for dos?

Check out DOSBox Distro:

https://sites.google.com/site/dosboxdistro/ [*]

a lightweight Linux distro (tinycore) which boots off a usb flash drive and goes straight to DOSBox.

Make your dos retrogaming experience portable!

Okay any idea how people enable the FPS counter in Tomb Raider 1, or is that only part of a custom engine like OpenLara?

With the software version I don't think you can show the fps but there are patches for many graphics cards from that time that show the fps when you press F2. Maybe it's a different key but it's usually F1, F2, F3 or F4, I think one version has keys like shift+F6 or F7. The patch notes usually say this. Tomb Raider 1 has patches for the 3dfx voodoo, 3dfx voodoo rush, S3 Virge, Matrox Mystique, Power Vr, Rendition Vérité, Ati Rage Pro and there's a Mac version too.
